Too many icons for games I have no intention of playing again. I don't see any point in keeping them installed. Games I liked but declined interest or needed a break from remain. I only un-installed games I have zero intention of playing again.

Using EVE Contracts to Outfit New Pilots
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 23 January 2014, 7:00 am
I don’t have much experience with contracts in EVE. I few years ago I created a submitted a contract for my first cruiser, the Vexor. I wanted it cheaper than what was on the Market Place at that time and delivered to my home station. Shortly after outfitting my blockade runner, the Viator, I did two small courier contracts. However, the inherent danger of being setup for a kill or ransom was more risk than I wanted in my life at the time, so I promptly exited the courier trade.

Many Definitions of Noob Friendly PVP
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 21 January 2014, 7:00 am
My complete kerfuffle of deciding which corporation to join aside, the one thing I was validated was the corporation’s stance on taking PVP noobs. If their bio didn’t state clearly they were ‘PVP Noob Friendly’, it was closed without further consideration. I have an ‘old’ EVE account if you go by the birth of my character. However, I’ve never played more than a few months consecutively and 99.9% of that has been in high security space, running missions and salvaging. Transitioning to an aware, proactive and proficient PVP pilot isn’t going to happen overnight. And certainly won’t come about because I clicked the ‘join’ button for a PVP corp.

Hold the Phone 75% through with moving to my assets to Caldari space from Hek, I get an email from Aideron Robotics. Their webiste was still having issues processing my API Key, which is what was preventing the completion of my application. We worked back and forth via IM to get it resolved. No matter what we tried and the fact the key worked in othe apps, the AR application wasn't having it. In the end, it had to be added programmatically by the site admin who then sent me a link with the key already embeded in it to conclude the process.

EVE Online: Project Kairos Corporation
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 19 January 2014, 9:26 am
The morning after I’d made my decision to join Project Kairos Corporation, I received two recommendations for corps to join. The first was from Stabbed, a courteous and helpful reader of this blog and blogger in his own right recommended Aideron Robotics. The other came via email from an ex EVE Player / ex-blogger who suggested Chaotic Tranquility Corporation. Damn it to hell, both suggestions were for Gallente based outfits. Both of them know more about the game than I do, so I went about applying to each. Mind you, I’m half way through shuttling my shit across the galaxy.

EVE - Let's Give Player Corps Another Try
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 18 January 2014, 12:00 pm
EVE Date 2014-1-14 With the decision to wade into the deep end of New Eden made, it was time to find a corporation to call home. It was my intention to be careful in selecting one. Before doing that, I had to know what I wanted out of the experience and what would be expected in return. For my part, small gang and medium size fleet activity were at the top of my list. However friendly, newly formed corporations were not an option. After my last encounter with one, I need some indication people knew what they’re doing. Longevity as a corporation seemed one reasonable measure. Beyond PVP, I want to engage in Faction Warfare and still be able to pursue my goal of finally reaching level 3 missions.

A Return to EVE Online
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 16 January 2014, 7:30 am
Well boys and girls, it’s time for my annual return to EVE Online. I've resubscribed to take part in the game's 18th free expansion, Rubicon. I’ve been playing EVE off and on since December of 2005. Damn, that's a hell of a long time to play a game without achieving a long term goal. Ouch. This is my second account and I've been on it since 2007. I gave my miner character away to an old guild master after declaring I wouldn't be returning to that game! Who knew?

In Tera, I Forget I'm Playing a F2P Game
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 14 January 2014, 6:50 pm
I’m almost level 43, more than two-thirds through the leveling process in Tera Rising. I haven’t however, seen the same percentage of the content. I’ve noticed recently, that by doing all of the quests, we’re losing some of the combat difficulty because we’re the same level as the mobs. It’s not quite as exciting when we can pull 30 mobs and spam them down effortlessly. It might be time to start skipping quests that aren’t part of the main storyline.

What I’ve Been Playing
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 23 December 2013, 6:22 pm
Things have been busy at the store with holiday shoppers, which is a good thing. I suppose it shouldn’t come as a surprise that my favorite part of the business remains the Saturday craft classes I’ve been teaching there. I’m definitely going to expand that area in 2014. I’ve introduced steampunk inspired projects and of course, fantasy themed crafts. Yep, I’m on to corrupting other people’s children like I did my own along with my nieces and nephews. *smile*

I AM
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 21 November 2013, 5:05 pm
I’ve had a few careers in my life – developer, instructional designer and performance analyst. I’ve been fortunate enough co-author three books that were published back in my technical hay-day. I’ve been a wife. I am a mother. I am a grandmother, aunt and entrepreneur. I still aspire to be a published fiction author. And I’m a gamer.

Long Time No Blog

I’m in a MMO gaming slump. Granted, I don’t have nearly as much free time to play but the time I do have, I guard carefully. My free-to-play journey with Sarzan stalled after Dragon’s Prophet. Arena Net’s strategy of providing temporary content has not interested me enough to return to GW2 either. I’ll be back if/when there’s an expansion pack. I need new levels, completely new zones, skills and crafting recipes. Until then, my adventures in Tyria are over – much to my disappointment.

FFXIV ARR Early Release Fail
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 26 August 2013, 12:17 pm
MMO launches are a tricky business. I think all reasonable players understand the difficulty and odds of pulling off a smooth launch. My issue is the lack of planning for player load ON TOP OF technical issues that have persisted since Beta 3, prevented the vast majority of my access to Beta 4 and are still present in Early Access. We can all give Square Enix a pass on under estimating player demand. However, too many games have come along in recent years equipped with queuing systems to deal with gating player demand. No one wants to be in a queue for hours. But it’s far better than what is happening on FFXIV, where your log in was being rejected with a message to “wait for more room noob then try again later” lulz. As if we’d know when it was a good time to try again. WTF New Square...

Indie Games, GW2 & FFXIV AAR
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 1 August 2013, 11:40 am
As you can imagine, my gaming time has been greatly curtailed since opening the store. Even when I do have down time, I’m so mentally exhausted, that I’m more apt to catch up on TV shows or watch a movie. I have done a bit of gaming here and there – whatever can be done in small spurts and without formal grouping. Indie Gaming MMOs are my games of choice. I play just about every Triple-A title when it releases. It most cases, having pre-ordered it. When I don’t have one of those to play, I look into console titles that the whole family might be interested in playing together for a spell. So while I’ve known of Steam, there’s been no occasion where it fit my gaming preferences and hence never checked it out. I was recently introduced to being a Steam consumer via gifted games from Sarzan. I...

Leaping from the Ledge

Long time readers of this blog know how much I enjoy crafting and a vibrant economy in massive titles. I often get so carried away, being a purveyor of virtual goods becomes my primary activity. About 2 years ago, I expanded my love of crafting into a real life endeavor by designing and selling handmade accessories on Etsy. I’ve had a blast even though the effort dominates my free time. It’s been a wonderful form of creative expression that pays for itself. It was also an on-time sanctuary and balm when my mother passed away suddenly. I could sit down and express myself without words and be left with something that was at least to my eyes, beautiful – tangible.

Dragon’s Prophet, ROM’s Paler Cousin
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 2 June 2013, 11:50 am
I’ve been playing a bit of Dragon’s Prophet (DP), the new title from RuneWalker, who also developed Runes of Magic (ROM). I was enticed by player housing, where the homes are visible in the landscape and the promise of creating my own furniture much like I did in EQ2. I bought into one of the founder programs to secure a free house and some starter furniture. Unfortunately, I didn’t learn until I started playing that unlike ROM, player housing is end-game material and not something immediately available. Unfortunate, but not a deal breaker for me.

Dragon's Prophet: Getting Your First Dragon
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 30 May 2013, 9:12 pm
If you’re like me, one of the first things you’ll want to do in Dragon’s Prophet (DP) is get your first dragon! Dragons serve multiple purposes in DP. They are used as mounts, combat companions and can be stabled then sent out to harvest materials for you. How cool is that!

SimCity 5 Here I Come!
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 12 April 2013, 7:00 am
Launch nonsense aside, I’ve decided to join the masses playing SimCity 5. I’ve never played SimCity of any kind. For several years, I was a huge The Sims fan. I’ve played and owned every version and the accompanying expansions through The Sims 3 Apartment Life. I even played The Sims Online and was in the beta no less. Oh how the fall of that game broke my heart. It was like the designers had never played The Sims. *Cries big splashy tears*

Tera Online: Tim Burton Called
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 9 April 2013, 3:02 pm
My favorite game zones lean toward shire-like or Germanic folksy landscapes. I typically despise frozen zones and desert wastelands. In my experiences, they often lack imagination in their visualization – icy empty or parched empty…blah. Rift’s Shimmering Sands was a desert exception and GW2’s snow covered Frostgorge Sound delighted me and was the end-game zone I enjoyed best.

GW2: Taking a Break
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 8 April 2013, 10:15 pm
I am officially on hiatus from GW2. Although I love me some Mesmer, what I was doing became too repetitive. I was crafting, saving up money and doing monthlies for no real reason. I had all the gear I wanted, maxed crafting and amassing gold just cuz. I need some dings, places areas to explore or new skills/specs to entertain me. I think my days of deep end game are over.

Tera Online: Early Impressions Video | Lancer
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 29 March 2013, 7:00 am
This is my Lancer, Saylah Noire, finishing up a quest in Tuwangi Mire. TM is a tiny area south of Fey Forrest, that's easily missed. Sarzan (duoing partner) and I didn't quest there on our main characters. I stumbled on it while exploring. It's a cute valley with fun architecture that offers a change in scenery when questing on an alt character. Tera Online: Mystic Solo & Healing SM
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 27 March 2013, 7:00 am
My Mystic hit level 26 last week. Friday evening I decided to try my first instance in Tera Online. Initially, I tried getting in a group via chat. I didn't want to main heal my first time doing an instance or for that matter, healing a real group. I've healed people through taking down BAMs here-n-there but that's nothing compared to dungeon encounters. No luck getting a group in chat, I used the LFG tool knowing by doing so, I stood a good chance of being the healer.

SyFy Defiance
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 26 March 2013, 6:42 pm
Locked. Loaded. Ready to be obssessed. I just finished watching the "Making of" and Pilot Preview for the new show. It looked like the complexity and backstory of the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica + intimate and compelling characters from my beloved Firefly. OMG looks like BSG + Whedon had a baby. Am more amped about the show than ever before. How cool would it be if the game was also half decent. I'm not often a fan of the SyFy network. They have been known to pull acclaimed shows off the air and bastardized one of my favorite fantasy series of all time, Earthsea. They have a chance here to redeem themselves and prove to me at least, that BSG wasn't luck. Tera Online: Mommy, what's a BAM?
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 25 March 2013, 7:00 am
Earlier in the week I encountered my 2nd Big Ass Monster that the players call BAMs. I'd only recently enountered my first as part of a quest a couple of levels ago. BAMs are designed for 5-man parties but I've seen players attempting them with less. Certain class combinations can duo them. I've heard of Lancers soloing them. I will definitely give it a try for shitz-n-grinz when my Lancer reaches this zone. My first BAM quest completions were done duo with Sarzan. Whew, it's one hell of a long fight with little margin for error when you're messing with BAMs. Stray too far trying to evade a big hit and you might pull another BAM or set of mobs. *Raises hand* Yep, I've done that. The aggro leash is so large that other players can unintentionally drag a pack of mobs across your combat area and if you just...

Tera Online: Early Impressions Part 3 of 3
Posted by Mystic Worlds [HTML][XML][PERM][FULL] on 22 March 2013, 7:00 am
Let's recap the highlights of my impressions that started here and continued here, into a bullet list and final thoughts. What I like Best Solo / duo friendly Classes are what caught my attention and make questing fun Customizable UI - you're staring at it and using it, I prefer making it suit me personally not a designer's idea of where things should be. I'm talking to you ANet. Gear doesn't matter too much. You can function just fine wearing the drops provided. That may change later in the game. Creating combines in crafting provides levels. Sure it's the same ole create 1000 fozzles before making anything you really want BUT it helps when you can level making the stacks of cloth, leather, ingots, yada. Environments are pleasant to be in and ride around if you like typical fantasy. It's no GW2, Aion or AOC but it's nice enough and...
