'RTM is a better System? Art is Art!' by AlikSteel Submitted on 2010-05-07 17:29:27 CST It's no secret, That for the most part, I don't like the RMT system in our MMO's. Fluff stuff(no stat's) Is OK, But we all know where this will go. Soon, Within the next year(I think), We will start seeing Armor set's and Weapons that have real stat's that matter in the bigger MMO games. This will hurt some gamers that may not have as much money as other's. With the RMT system, It's set up to make you need/want to spend more and more money. And with the way money is here in the USA right now. There is a lot of people that can just make the internet and sub payments each month. Meaning they will slowly fall behind there friends and guild mates as time goes by. I myself like the fact that right now, I know what my bill is each month, With RMT, You will not know what it will be from month to month.
Art is art, I have no idea how this is even something to talk about. Any thing can be looked at as art. Every part of an MMO can be looked at as art, Yes even the code writer is apart of the art. ....
I was trying to come up with something that most people would not see as art, And by some other's it can be art.
(USA)Football, The way Barry Sanders(Running Back) would run the ball was looked at as art and even called an Art Form by some.
Hey y'all, Britney Spears wanted me to tell y'all Hi ;-)

'Your making my brain bleed with your RMT discussion' by Kasil Submitted on 2010-05-10 20:57:36 CST Ok you are making my brain bleed. I think you guys get lost in the numbers with WoW. Let’s say Blizzard made 10 million dollars on the “Sparkle Pony” which I think is actually high, actual numbers I have seen is more like (3 million dollars). This would be approx 400,000 sales at $25.00. You guys do realize this is .0347% of subscribers purchased it. Or to think about it a different way. With 11.5 million sub’s at an average monthly revenue of $13 your talking 1.79 billion dollars in annual revenue from WoW subscriptions (so the sparkle pony is .0055%) of annual revenue. Seriously you think the 10 million dollar “Sparkle Pony” is going to have any effect on what Blizzard is doing in the long term? You think they are closely monitoring the “Sparkle Pony” sales so they can cash in on another 10 million dollars?
Additionally I believe in the past you have suggested that Blizzard might follow the success of “Free Realms” and their next MMO would likely be a Free to play. Why in the world would they do that? You think they are getting tired of printing all that money they are making and want to replicate the awesome success of Free Realms?
Anyway I think you really need to consider that Blizzard is doing exactly what they are saying they are doing which is adding some non-game effecting virtual items where it makes financial sense to them. This will in no way effects the real cash cow which is WoW monthly sub’s. It will not dramatically affect the market place, it will not change gaming subscription models forever.
Now that being said I think we can all agree that $10,000,000 is silly amount of profit for adding some art assets to the game but at the end of the day making money in this market is about your number of subscribers and your monthly subscription fee’s and Blizzard has done a far better job of providing a compelling place for people to spend their money than other game companies.
Lastly I think this entire discussion has more to say about the consumer then Blizzard which is to say even in the online world “A fool and their money, shall soon be parted”

'LOTRO Free to play - WTF?' by Alces Submitted on 2010-06-04 22:45:45 CST I surely hope Turbine bringing LOTRO into the Free to Play realm will be discussed on the next podcast. some questions that I still don't have answers to via the email I just received have to do with being a lifetime member. I read what they have to say, but it really doesn't address alot of questions. Of course I am writing this right after I read the email, so I have not yet formulated those questions into well reasoned questions since WTF is still the first thi ng that pops into my mind.
