'Thanks' by Kanthalos Submitted on 2008-05-19 10:01:40 CST Hey guys,
Thanks for talking about my post. Just to clear things up, I just say "more insight," it was just a play on MMO. Also, I pronounce Kanthalos "kan-thuh-lohs." Hope that helps, hehe. Anyways, thanks again for taking a look at my post. One way to remedy the problem of players seeing the whole game is to put a level cap at about 1/3 of the max level, but provide enough time in the trial that this is possible for the majority of players.
'Darren is my hero' by Talyn Submitted on 2008-05-19 12:27:49 CST Either I actually wasn't as spaztastic as I thought I'd been when I replayed it in my head or, more likely, Darren is a master editor and should be paid gazillions of dollars as an audio engineer!
Thanks for having me on the show!
Scott err... "Tim?" from *PIMPING* Irony! =D hahahaha
'*she* ' by Luper Submitted on 2008-05-19 13:05:10 CST Thanks for talking about my post as well. *feels special* Haha.. by the way, I'm actually female, so that would be a "she". (Checks) Yes, yes.. I would be a she. Oh well.. lol. (Does "Luper" sound like a male's name? )
When you talked about campaigning for 3 years, it brought back so many memories of DnD (pen and paper style). I miss it so much. Too many people bringing up DnD, lately! (Making me sad.) My friends and I used to get together every Sunday as well. You couldn't believe the campaigns we ran! One of them lasted 2 years. I got my Druid to level 22. The story got deeper and deeper, and the world was extremely immense! I don't think I could forget any of the plots, etc.
I've heard Karen bring up this point before, but I really really love that she brings it up. The fact that when you are a new player to a game, usually you can't just play with your higher level friends. I don't nec. think that it is the grind to get to the point of where your friends are, but It's the whole aspect of time. Some people don't have the time to get to max level as fast as their friends. Leveling can be tons of fun, but most people don't like soloing. I like the brotherhood system in Vanguard. The only issue I have with it is that you have to be within 5 levels of the person in order to get them into a brotherhood. I think they should scale it if you are further apart in levels, so that you can still help your friends who are lower level get to max level.
Ya'll came up with some neat ideas. I didn't really like the idea of giving people an option to just get to max level by talking to an NPC. I think that would ruin the whole point of leveling a character, and dumb down achievements such as spending time to get to max level.
I know that you mentioned the virbalization of "epeen" in the whole virtual world, but really we have people that do that in real life as well, but we just call those accomplishments and achievements. I think that getting full legendary or fabled gear in a game is something to look up to, but it's the player's mentality that truly makes them who they are. I hate people who run around boasting that they have all the best gear and they can "pwn" you. Those are the players who ruin it for the rest of us.
Anyways, great episode. I couldn't stop laughing when you guys were laughing.. lol.

'Transgender names?' by Talyn Submitted on 2008-05-19 13:21:57 CST Luper could go either way, although at first glance I'd assume you were male too if I wasn't already a VoV listener.
On the other hand, it seems everyone assumes my Talyn nickname is female, and I just don't see it... there must be some reference I'm not getting?
'Hmm.. I could see it. ' by Luper Submitted on 2008-05-19 13:34:43 CST I can see where your name could be a female name. It sounds like a High Elf name.
Have you ever read "Talyn: A Novel of Korre"? It's about a female soldier. It's written by Holly Lisle. (I read a lot.. probably way too much).
Anyways, transgender names could be an interesting topic to talk about.

'More People...' by Wilhelm2451 Submitted on 2008-05-19 20:54:19 CST Tim and Michael? Mistake, denial, or an attempt at wish fulfillment? In addition to sponsor I think I am going to have to take over the copy editor position.
Luper is somewhat... well, lupine, and while wolves are male and female, the male wolf... the lone wolf, tends to be what springs to mind.
'SoOo.. wolves? ' by Luper Submitted on 2008-05-19 21:22:31 CST Now, I'm a vegitable? *cries* (Lupine= plant from the legume family.)
I got confused about the whole wolf thing. (I understand the white wolf being both male and female, but you lost me on the rest.) Explain, please. lol
~Luper the Dragonslayer (Voyages of Vanguard)
'Beans to That!' by Wilhelm2451 Submitted on 2008-05-19 21:44:15 CST The first thing I get when I look up "Lupine" is "Something that is like, or relating to, a wolf (canis lupus)." If you've got beans on the mind, I cannot help you there.
Explain? Um... people who associate themselves with wolves tend to be male? Not sure where the hermaphroditic white wolf came in.
Or maybe that association is just in my mind, sparked by my Soviet studies classes way back when where we talked about the Siberian wolf mythos.
Is there a strong female/wolf association in some culture?
'Ermm... Still on the wolves thing.' by Luper Submitted on 2008-05-19 22:08:21 CST I don't associate myself with wolves at all. lol. If you look up the definition of Lupine, it says that its any plant from the legume family. I still don't know where the word Lupine fits in, since I go by Luper not Lupine. lol.
The name is meant to relate to the word "loopy" as in "crazy" and "eccentric." The reason behind this is because my character is a Blood Mage. I steal the blood of others in order to heal my allies, etc, etc. ^_^ Maybe that helps.
Haha..

'My dictionary' by Wilhelm2451 Submitted on 2008-05-20 00:00:51 CST My dictionary says that the adjective, which was clearly the form of the word I was using, refers to wolf-like things. It is derived from the Latin name for the wolf family.
And surely you can make the mental leap from Luper to Lupine. I can't see how that can be a mystery to you, the words being so close in spelling.
Anyway, if you want to stick with beans, far be it from me to keep you from them. Just remember who tried to associate your name with a cool animal and not "the musical fruit," as the rhyme goes.
Slay dragons! Give them gas! It's an inside job!
