'First! (listening now)' by Beauturkey Submitted on 2008-02-04 00:25:15 CST Wow, I love having mic issues. The wife always gets the good PC.
Great show guys! (So far..waiting for me to make an ass of myself hehe)
Seriously, thanks! It was a blast!
'Yowza' by Talyn Submitted on 2008-02-04 15:50:04 CST Blog of the week, eh? Wow, thanks Darren :) I'm truly flattered, and appreciate the attention!
'WAR' by JoeH Submitted on 2008-02-04 17:05:51 CST I'm actually looking forward to WAR. And I'm a care bear. I think that the things that aren't in PvP are much more integral to the game than the PvP. The questing and crafting can exist without the PvP, but not Vice Versa. Shameful plug here's a blog I wrote, A care bear's manifesto: http://www.gaxonline.com/profiles/blog/show?id=1511077%3ABlogPost%3A70150
'Great Show as usual!' by Oakstout Submitted on 2008-02-05 14:39:44 CST I have to say that I've really enjoyed the last couple of shows, doesn't hurt that you actually mentioned my blog in one. lol This show is one of the few shows that, once i get it downloaded to the Ipod in the morning, its the first thing I listen to on the drive in to work.
This show has lots of interesting topics, some I may try to e-mail a few thoughts on. Your hosts this time around were very vocal and had lots of varied postions, not all of them agreeing with the blogger who's topic you covered. I enjoy the opposing view points, if everyone agrees its kind of a boring show, keep up the great work.
'Great show!' by animagnum Submitted on 2008-02-06 10:26:19 CST There were some good discussions on this show. My only point of contention is the statement made about devoting a significant amount of time to a game before being able to review it. While I do agree that a lot of time would need to be devoted to a game in order to comment on all of its intricacies, I also think that a game does have to earn that time. Let's say you are playing an MMO that is so unreasonably difficult that it just isn't fun. What would you say about it? Would you feel obligated to devote a lot of time to eventually reach the "fun"? What if you had just shelled out $70 for a collector's edition? What if it was free?
'*correction' by animagnum Submitted on 2008-02-06 10:29:21 CST I suppose "review" was slightly inaccurate, as Leala said that one would need to devote a lot of time to the game before discovering whether or not they would enjoy it. Anyway, the rest of my comment is still connected.
'Marginalizing players by elitists.' by Nosferum Submitted on 2008-02-07 21:14:06 CST Thank you, Leala.
The idea of public information on a player's effectiveness is an atrocious idea. I've listened to many of these podcasts for a few years, but the ideas proposed for data collection in this podcast were the first that were so bad that I gasped. Leala absolutely ruled this debate.
Let's begin with the argument that players don't have a "right" to force (better) players to play with them (the "bad" ones). There's no force here. These people are just trying to play an online game. Creating a system where players can segregate such that "bad players" only end up playing with "bad players" is a system in which a significant portion of a game's players have only bad experiences and learn very little. Leala brought this up.
Do you honestly believe you were always the "good one" in all of your groups? I, personally, know several people who are *not* good in online games. I group, regularly, with two of them. They know they aren't very effective, and both of them feel bad about it. They get frustrated at themselves; so you're proposing a system to ensure these players are marginalized and never get better.
