In this 9th episode of Through the Aftermath, we're joined by Chris Davis, owner of RPGObjects.com to talk about the post-apocalyptic tabletop gaming scene. Chris tells us all about his own tabletop RPG Darwin's World, as well as his personal top 10 PA tabletop RPG list.
'Great show' by DamianoV Submitted on 2009-04-29 12:44:48 CST Really enjoyed this show. Pen and paper, my first love... (sigh).
Some random notes:
OpenRPG was (and is) a great product. Virtual tabletops are one of those things that always frustrate me, tho. To be truly useful to me, they'd have to be able accommodate multiple, widely varying rule sets (D20/OGL, Chaosium, ICE Rolemaster, and GURPS... for starters).
P.S. I would be VERY up for a Gamma World session/campaign over a virtual tabletop, if I can settle on a utilitarian one. Famine in Far-go, anyone?
Don't get me started on WotC. The character creator taking nearly a year to release? Good god, there were great 3rd paty online character creation services up the _initial day of release_. Gah!
Other PA games from my shelves:
FGU had a couple that were basically PA, tho not specifically: Freedom Fighters, a loose "post-Invasion" ruleset (think Red Dawn and/or War of the Worlds); and Psiworld, focused on psionic powers.
Chaosium's Michael Moorcock's Hawkmoon is a PA setting, of course, based on their Elric rules. (A classic fiction series to read, as well, of course.)
Mutazoids by Whit Productions is another title I have on the shelf, but I know next to nothing aout it. A quick scan of the character sheet and rules leads me to believe it's vaguely d20-ish, with some Chaosium influence.
Many might not classify this as PA, but I've always found the Darkspace setting for Rolemaster to be reminiscent of PA, despite it really being Space Opera in a magic/tech combo setting with a Cthulhu twist. I think it's the idea of bio-engineered symbiotic organisms taking the place of cybernetics that puts me in Post-Apocalypse frame.
Just random thoughts. I definitely need to head to the forums at some point...
