Free Play Podcast #6
Wed, 3 Dec 2008 20:43:00 GMT [download/play]

Episode six of the Free Play Podcast as arrived, and Joe still isn't here, but that's nothing new, right? To compensate for this Riknas and Andras kidnap Lady Sinaea and drag her onto the show, and they all discuss Nexon's "Mabinogi". Riknas' suppressed, sad, cynic comes to life playing this game, as he begins to realize what a miserable existence he leads. As a result, Andras must trudge forward as the voice of reason. Sort of.

...has a virtual keyboard so that you are not typing in your password and some keylogger does not steal your password.

That's why! :)

Rose Online is a MMORPG that recently was changed to free to play. Just incase it isn't known. For future ideas perhaps.

...How did you find this out?

Oh, that's just a standard in a lot of free MMO's. I've pretty much played almost everything the world has to offer! lol

The asian market stuff comes (a lot of the time) with the anti-hacking tools, you'll see them pop up before you play, or you'll have issues with them sometimes. They are notorious for that.

The virtual keyboard is just for that: so that when you are putting in your sensitive info, all a keylogger would show is "mouse click mouse click."

Hey, go get the beta for that Ten Meshanagai Tsne=ssya "imagine" game..(it's something like that! lol ) It plays (combat wise) a lot like Mabinogi, but seems a LOT grittier and more realistic.

Right, the keyboard thing, you're reasoning makes sense, I've seen it before, but did you read it somewhere that the virtual keyboard is for anti-hacking, or is it just going by logic?

'Both actually..' by Beauturkey

I thought it was, because we do something similar: we save our passwords on a sheet of text, then copy and paste the passwords so we are never typing them.
Same thing with the vitrual keyboard.
Then I read some discussion of it on (iirc) Tales of Pirates site. Or was it "A Pirates Tale?" lol

I COULD be wrong, I guess. From one game to another it could be for different reasons. On that note, though, I always have screennames memorized so I don't re-type them, either.

ya know...

This is the most frustrating podcast to listen to... ya know?

Do a little background research... ya know?

Create a show outline... ya know?

Do you gents even listen to your cast before you upload it?

...ya know?

I'm afraid I really "don't know". Are we doing anything inaccurately? What do we do that frustrates you? Is the humor overdone? Is it too random?

I would like to point out that we do edit this show, with our editor Joe doing the main editing, and I do fine-tuning in case anything seems inappropriate or could use more tweaking. However this typically consists of shaving off extra dead space and a few sentences that just don't fit.

There is an outline made to the show, and it consists of show progression as well as aspects of the game that need addressing.

So, yes. We do listen to it, though apparently not to high enough standards, what do you think could use improvement then?

We're pretty new to this stuff...Ya know?

So all suggestions really -are- noted, ya know?

ha ha ...I keed.

But yeh, there's a roughness to it, but heck half my shows are rough too. You have your good and bad.

It is always a work in progress, so just keep figuring out how you wanna' do it.

Anyway, that Imagine game is REALLY playing strong man, go try it. The combat is fun.

'Virtual Keyboard' by Talyn

Yes, Beau is correct -- those "virtual keyboards" are an attempt to prevent keylogger hacking. Most of the ones I've seen do specifically say so and suggest you use it rather than your keyboard. Not even sure if I have one installed at the moment that uses the virtual keyboard entry though.

Your always in my friggin' head! I pop on to suggest Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine (also know as Megaten Online), from aeria games. The combat system reminded me a lot of Mabinogi......what do I find......Beau Turkey....being all constructive and such.....I'm watching you Turk....I'm watching you.

On the subject of the podcast:

I think you guys have a neat show going on here. I enjoy trying out these games and even gave Rohan Online a shot just to see if I agreed with you guys. One thing I did notice this podcast (mainly because I think Lady Sinea was on, so more to compare to) compared to Andras and Lady Sinea, Riknes seems to be yelling a lot. I only noticed it when I was listening with headphones and got blasted with a riknas rant.....+1 to Cynicism! Anyways keep up the good work and download Shin megami Tensei: Imagine....just know that it's in closed beta and they are giving keys away at fileplanet.

'Sorry' by iphigenia

Very unsporting and unhelpful of me to post in such a snarky manner. I am sorry.

Look gents, try to keep the "ya know?"s to a minimum. Listen to the podcast and you'll hear this filler phrase dozens of times. It's a drag to listen to someone say this rubbish at the end of most every sentence... over and over and over.

Outside of that the podcast was entertaining and sometimes very informative.

In general it felt quite aimless and rough however.

But then again, what podcasts have I done lately? None. So keep up the battle and swing over to Brent's main podcast and listen to his episode on podcasting if you haven't. It really covers anything I or anyone else might point out is below par.

Ah, "Ya know". Because it's so much part of our regular speech, we didn't really know about the "Ya knows".

Ya know, it's kind of weird how that works.

We really have been working on this podcast, and it's been a while since we did our Tabula Rasa podcast, so we're really getting back into the swing of things, as well as still getting used to our new format. Reviewing a game is one of the weirder things to do, at least on an MMO perspective. Once a week, a different game each week, we try to find the highlights of the game (assuming it isn't plain crap) and talk about that. However it is pretty much free form, taling about what we mainly noticed about the game.

In regards to the sense of aimlessness, I can see that, this is really for F2P MMO enthusiasts, and people who just want to know about a brand new MMO each week, as opposed to general news. That said though, I'm still working with Andras and Joe to try and tighten the format, and find a balance between the humor and just getting the info, personally I feel we are making progress, bit by bit, but progress nonetheless.

So yea, we're going to keep trying to improve on the podcast, and actually make it entertaining instead of frustrating, ya know?

Very enjoyable to listen too, Lady Sinaea as a guest was cool, I vote for more guests if you can do it.

I thought it was funny, I can't remember perfectly, but the main thing is that you guys/gals were making me laugh when describing the game :)

btw I've been looking around like on steam and was wondering if it was a good idea to go through them for the extra goodies you get with the games you download that are the free to play ones?

Or are there some other good places to go to for the F2P like steam too? Or is it best to go direct to the sights of the F2P games website?

Or whatever, just basically I was thinking of questions like that.

This is not a bad thing or anything just is interesting is all.

You know those particular Asian mmo's that are really grindy with micro transaction that are played in Internet Cafés.

I was thinking how a way to describe them would be POAW "Persistent Online Arcade Worlds".

I just saw them on U-Tube and they seem like arcade games.

And you know they way it seems you can do everything with the mouse? I figured it was because allot of time people are playing in a Café's and need to use their other hand for other stuff like smoking and drinking coffee.

At least that's what I heard, if someone wants to correct me then by all means do so.

I heard about your podcast and wanted to check it out. Since I play Mabinogi (Mabi), I wanted to hear this first.

Nice job :)
Although, at the second half or so, it just became ranting fest IMO.

I played Mabinogi first in 04 (in KR server) and I wasn't able to enjoy it much. Many, because of what you listed in this show (Grindfest and all)...

But I started to play in American server. and I was, surprisingly, having really good time.

Am I sick? I am having fun in Mabi :P
