No Prisoners, No Mercy Host: Julie Whitefeather & Frances Kosac There comes a time, friends, when your favorite MMO ceases to sparkle, when even new videogames lose their luster, and the computer room becomes a prison; and all that is left are two gamers (who happen to be nuns) with a very large axe to grind. Come join Julie Whitefeather and Frances Kosac as they go to War - and along the way discuss the events of the week in the MMO industry.

'Fun podcast!' by Jute Submitted on 2008-08-26 10:38:40 CST I'm with sister Julie...no Deathknight for me.
One point, she kills the trolls in Stranglethorn Vale, before they kill her! They aren't innocent minding their own business, they try to kill you!
I completely recognize the distinction between fantasy and reality, but my character is an extension of me. I just can't do the kill innocents and feel good about it. Just a personal quirk...
'Thanks but...' by Julie Submitted on 2008-08-26 11:49:32 CST Well thanks for the compliment on the show. However it is actually Fran that you agree with. She is the "good nun" in the argument. She won't kill the helpless villagers cower in a corner that, at least according to 1up.com, you have to run through to become a death knight.
Some people do identify with thier characters more than others. As for myself, I enjoy the mmo because it is a chance to become someone I am not. It is perhaps my theatrical training that enables me to get "into the head" of a character that has little in common with who I am.
My take on the death knight? Bring on the helpless villagers...Gnomercy will have no problems getting the job done.
Thanks for the compliment. I am glad you enjoyed the show. This wednesday we will be recording our WAAAUGHammer special.

'HOOT!' by Seritaph Submitted on 2008-08-26 17:23:32 CST You two must be a HOOT to play with, however it sounds like you play opposite factions. I'm not sure I followed clearly what game J.T. was playing, but hey I'm from the Twin Cities as well... so WOOT! Score one for the locals! And thanks for turning me on to a new author. Though I'm not sure I have the guts to read Inferno...
Lich King will be fun. When I played Warcraft III (the real-time strategy game) there's a point where you (as Arthas) have the burn down the houses of innocent people and kill them before the plague consumes them. I must admit that I had a hard time wrapping my head around doing an evil deed like that, so I understand Sister Fran's position.
But then again, it's a compelling story and the only way to get through it is to complete the mission. I completed the mission only to do more evil deeds. But I was rewarded with exciting story-telling. I will make a Death Knight, and I will reluctantly do the evil deeds asked of me (probably wincing), because in the end I will be rewarded with an engaging story and an extremely cool character.
'Lich King' by Julie Submitted on 2008-08-26 17:29:35 CST Although Fran and I do have characters on the same server, the one I play the most is on horde side on proudmore, and the one she plays the most is on Alliance on Whisperwind. We both have characters on the same side, its just a matter of which side we play the most on. So while I should "for the horde" she shouts "for the alliance."
But in Warhammer I find I will be shouting "for order" most of the time - I have no desire to play a character that looks like she just escaped from a Victoria's secret underwear commercial. Yes, I know they are true to the original tabletop game, and yes I did try the characters, but come on...she's dressed for the fantasies of a 14 year old boy.
As for Wrath of the Lich king, if all goes well, my gnomish death knight will be riding around on the back of her three wheeled motorcycle - and THAT is jumping the shark. The odd thing is, I don't care. It will just be so much fun.

'Another note..' by Julie Submitted on 2008-08-26 17:32:48 CST The game that J.T. is so incredibly fond of is called "My Hero's Ability". He mentions it at the start of the segment. It is a massively multiplayer online game on facebook. What I thought was so interesting as it never occured to me that an MMO might be on facebook. From the way he discusses it, it sound like the early version is much like the old mud's with pictures. But I will say one thing, J.T. was really hyped on that game.
Upcoming shows will have segments with J.T. as well (he talked for two hours straight)

'Thanks for clarifying!' by Seritaph Submitted on 2008-08-26 17:42:03 CST Ah...that's what threw me off. A Facebook MMO. Had no idea that was possible. What a cool idea.
'Oh and...' by Seritaph Submitted on 2008-08-26 17:53:45 CST Make sure your Death Knight is an engineer, so you can ride your bike wearing sunglasses.
'Hells Gnomes' by Julie Submitted on 2008-08-26 18:05:02 CST Thanks for the tip. You mean like the lean, mean, fighting machine in the picture below. My very own "hells gnome" from the Earthen Ring server.

'Awesome' by Jmo Submitted on 2008-08-27 23:30:37 CST Great show Julie! I have to second the statement that you and Sister Fran have got to be the coolest nuns in history, hands down. I think asking her to be your co-host was a great idea, and I definitely loved the Good Nun-Bad Nun segment.
Also, J.T. Hampton seems like a very interesting guy. I look forward to hearing the other parts of the interview and also to picking up the book, Inferno, that he spoke of on the show. I'm very interested to see how it is.
'Thanks' by Julie Submitted on 2008-08-28 07:30:19 CST Thanks for the compliment JMO - it is greatly appreciated and I will pass the word on to Fran. It is the comments from the readers that keep us going.
The Next Episode will be our Waaaghammer Special Edition. However, as I told J.T. this week , next wednesday the second part of the series featuring Mr. Hampton will be back. Two of the subjects in upcoming segments are J.T. talks movies with us, and another segment all about what he is working on.
Thanks again for your kind words.\

'Another brilliant show!' by Lostinspace Submitted on 2008-08-29 01:54:07 CST Yup as promised the good-nun/bad-nun aspect had me rolling on the floor (well nearly collided with another bike on the trail at least). I too have become a fan of the Facebook MMOesque activities. I have been avidly playing Space Raiders - a very simple game but with very deep psychological attacks and seemingly diabolical tactics. Folks get incredibly agitated about who is stealing who's crew, all kinds of threats, vendettas and other delightful things go on there - great stuff although a few folk take it all to distubingly seriously!
