No Prisoners, No Mercy Host: Julie Whitefeather & Frances Kosac There comes a time, friends, when your favorite MMO ceases to sparkle, when even new videogames lose their luster, and the computer room becomes a prison; and all that is left are two gamers (who happen to be nuns) with a very large axe to grind. Come join Julie Whitefeather and Frances Kosac as they go to War - and along the way discuss the events of the week in the MMO industry.
'Good to hear you laughing' by Saylah Submitted on 2009-01-02 00:29:08 CST It was good to hear you laughing while ringing out the year. I imagine WOW chat and forums are pretty interesting reads with that hunter pet nonsense going on. Fun show. Have a safe and happy new year!
'Happy New Year!' by Jmo Submitted on 2009-01-02 05:27:12 CST Hey there Sisters, Happy New Year to you both (and to everyone here at VW)!
Great show as always, but being a comic geek I feel I have to make one minor correction:
I'm 99% sure that the movie with Stan Lee trying to get into a wedding is the Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer. I'm going to feel like I'm an idiot if I'm wrong, but I'm positive that Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson have not been married in the movies...yet...
Anyway, I'll shut my mouth now. Talk to you both soon. Say hey on Skype some day!
'Stan "The Man" Lee' by Julie Submitted on 2009-01-02 06:00:27 CST Yes indeed, I checked and you are quite correct. It was in the fantastic four movie he is accused of crashing the wedding.
Happy new year to Saylah and JMO as well.

'Class and Skill base' by Celestian Submitted on 2009-01-02 20:41:53 CST I just had one thing I wanted to say regarding the discussion about skill based systems promoting "diversity" or being better.
Frankly I don't see it. I've played UO and other skill based games (the few that have come out) and not a single one EVER promoted diversity. Once a "good spec" was found EVERYONE used it. Tank-Mage anyone?
Classed based system promote diversity by forcing it. I prefer classed based system myself because it defines your role. Some folks like the sand-box sorta thing but as I said that just tends to end up being the same as everyone else in the long run.
Enjoyed the show, keep it up even if you guys are playing WoW ;0
'Generic Post Title' by Julie Submitted on 2009-01-02 21:28:09 CST @ Celestian: Well actually we are playing War and WoW both and once I can come up with the money for the expansion (I got half of it for Christmas) I will add Lotro into the mix.
As far as class based systems are concerned I still agree with the listern who first suggested them as a better system than the class based system that most games used (and as you will recall the original listener mail was aimed at Warhammer RvR). What bothers me about class based system is specifically DOES define the role of the player - by confining and limiting the person to a role. For example for most of the existance of WoW Paladins (I was and am one of them) have been confined to the role of healer/buffbot if they wanted to get in raids at all. There has been some changes along that specific path of late but that is the exception rather than the rule.
Does a skill based system promote diversity? I beileve it does. While there may be a tendency toward a specific skill combination when being a sword fighter, for example, it does allow the player to change their character as they see fit.
WoW will go a bit of the way toward this when they finallhy do allow the dual spec system that they have been talking about.
However I would like to see it taken even further by allowing the "betrayal" process between alliances as they do in EQ2.
And yes, in EQ2 I was known as "The Queen of Betrayal" in my guild.

':) o/' by FarSpace Submitted on 2009-01-03 10:01:19 CST Hello Ladies! That was a pretty nice story at the end about how your 1st experience was a nice one in an MMO. And when you're nice in a virtual world it can also becomes a good thing in the real world. Also, thanks for answering my question :)
'Hi o/ :) Question for you Ladies' by FarSpace Submitted on 2009-01-03 10:28:47 CST Julie & Fran, how can we Flame you women? You're way to sweet & awesome, I can't imagine :)
Although, I do see the fun in getting a flame sometimes :) I suppose you can not have a podcast and expect never to get some one upset at you for something. Podcasters must have to be thick skinned I'm sure.
I must admit I was a little flamed about levels in. But that's under the bridge now and you helped me out with that, thanks :)
Here's a question for you two Ladies, maybe this was being done already but...Can we send in our Flame's about other stuff too, like mmo's & similar things? It would be great if you two can help us understand something we're flamed up about in the gaming world. Because I figure you do talk about all the mmo's & games really.
I already asked a question so I'll hold off for a while and give other a chance. But I would love to hear your insight on what people are upset & flamed up with in mmo's and stuff like that. I bet you two can straighten it all out. :)
'Hi again ladies' by FarSpace Submitted on 2009-01-03 12:31:49 CST I was thinking, maybe I was making too big of a deal about the flaming about other stuff besides your podcast.
Sorry about that, sometimes I think I got a good idea but then I'm not so sure.
I'm sure I'm just misunderstanding, sorry, but I can't imagine any one wanting to flame you, maybe you meant something else.
Great show :)
'Get it off your chest' by Julie Submitted on 2009-01-03 18:12:14 CST As mom used to say, sometimes you just need to get something off your chest. Our attitude about flames are they can often be a great deal of fun. I often quote the great late Mae West when she said say whatever you want about me just spell the name right.
As far as just getting something off your chest your are worked up about, upset about or hopping made about - just go for it. We are always happy to receive comments or questions even it if is something we haven't discussed. After all there are games that we have bothed played but dont' play any more.
So...whether it is just about the events of the day or the events in an mmo just send in the recording or post the message and we will make sure it gets on the show. Flame away even it its someone or something in the mmo industry that has you upset.
Perhaps we'll call it something like "airing your dirty flameproof undies."
