No Prisoners, No Mercy Host: Julie Whitefeather & Frances Kosac There comes a time, friends, when your favorite MMO ceases to sparkle, when even new videogames lose their luster, and the computer room becomes a prison; and all that is left are two gamers (who happen to be nuns) with a very large axe to grind. Come join Julie Whitefeather and Frances Kosac as they go to War - and along the way discuss the events of the week in the MMO industry.
'swell gals...' by rocknerd Submitted on 2008-12-09 05:23:13 CST i always have a blast listening to you two while playing MMOs or my 360. gaming has been lonely for me as of late cause my gal has been ill and shes hasnt felt well enough to log into WoW with me, or the other 5 MMOs i play. (WAR, LotRO, EQ2, Tabula Rasa and AoC), so its nice to roll the audio of no prisoners no mercy while doing my gaming.
and YES, MMOs dont have to be like a sports team in which you can only root for one, but they can be like an assortment of flowers in which they all have different colors and smells, and as long as you stay away from the ones that make you sneeze, its all right to add a little variety into your life.
right now ive recently delved back into WoW with my brother, although i had pretty much written it off, i find it odd that i actually want to play it every once in a while again. i was previously burned out since ive played during beta and beyond. theres many features i felt WAR "fixed" as well as my other current fave; LotRO.
so, my question is to both of you as well as myself is... yes, were playing WoW again, but how long will it last? was the WotLK a band-aid that will keep us entertained for only a month and then we will spiral into burn-outedness again? or has the the core game changed enough that it will keep us coming back past the initial honeymoon month we payed for the expansion play?
i love what they had done with the graphics, it was time for change, because after playing LotRO and AoC, i couldn't stomach WoW anymore. as much as i would love to sound altruistic and say, "its the gameplay that keeps me here and the GFX are a bonus", i'm sorry, they are important to me in a 3D environment game. if i were playing a 2D isometric, i wouldn't mind as much.
so, how long will we last before these newer games rope us back up into the newer gaming mechanics and that fresh coat of paint?
'Kudos to Mythic' by Seritaph Submitted on 2008-12-09 18:09:09 CST It's too bad the contribution is broken (haven't got to Keeps yet), but hurray to Mythic for admitting the error and promising to fix it. I've noticed upon playing that there are a few other bugs that need tweaking as well. And Mark Jacobs indirectly acknowledges this, stating in a forum post that no expansions will happen until they are completely happy with the state of the game.
Thanks again for the great show. Entertaining as always!
'Well, to be frank, and you Bob...' by Beauturkey Submitted on 2008-12-09 18:40:04 CST ...it's kind of the developers JOB to admit when something is broke and to fix it.
Just sayin'...generally MMO developers do that sort of thang! lol
Anyway, great show guys!

'Needs me hammer!' by Celestian Submitted on 2008-12-09 22:48:57 CST I'm sad to see the ladies shying away from Warhammer but I still enjoy the show.
Post the Navy Seal proposal here!
'Don't be shy' by Julie Submitted on 2008-12-10 00:23:56 CST @ Celestian: Actually we aren't shying away from anything. In fact this show would normally have been twice as long, but as you can see from the dedication and my latest article there was a death in the family.
The second hour of the show (and now a subsequent show) is entirely warhammer.

In fact there has been much discussion about the new trend that I and others have seen in Wrath of the Lich King (and one of the principle reasons I returned) and that is the statement that was made by Blizzard (believe it was the community manager) "the difficulty is where we want it." This arises from the discussion that Jeff Kaplan and Rob Pardo had in inteview last year about so much of the end game content being done for what amounted to so few of the players (or relatively so in a game with such an incredibly large player base).
Has the famed "accesiblity" really returned to wow?
Only time will tell.

'many more mmo's to choose from but what to do?' by FarSpace Submitted on 2008-12-10 04:52:05 CST I just think there are many more good MMO's out now a days and it will be the norm in the future to play more then one MMO and keep going back and forth from your favorites.
Personally I think TOR having the Micro Transactions is going to be cool because then I will be able to stick with more then one with out having to give one up to play the other.
Also normally in the past when there were not so many MMO's to choose from I would naturally stick with one back then but now even thought an MMO is pretty good like TR was/is I still had to temp cancel it to play CoH again and planed on canceling CoH to go back to TR.
Anyways great show and good times, thanks for everything.
P.S. I'm sorry for your loss Frances & Julie.
'My Condolences' by McBruce Submitted on 2008-12-12 16:33:16 CST Sr's Julie and Fran;
I have been a long time lurker/listener, all the way back to Age of 'Conuns'.
Though normally a member of that silent majority of video game players, I wanted to break my silence and write in to offer my condolences to you and yours.
Sincerely,
McBruce
'Thank you all so much' by Julie Submitted on 2008-12-13 16:53:13 CST This last week has been hardest on Fran I think but it has been tough on me as well. Fortunately we were a show ahead of schedule. Today (Saturday) is in fact the first day where we have not had any elder care duties nor any duties involving funerals. So it is a bit of an adjustment.
Fran has had an idea for a special show next time involving one of Alice's favorite movies "chicken little."
