Van Hemlock Episode 65Fri, 21 Aug 2009 14:10:00 GMT [download/play]
This week we return to an overly hot studio and what we laughably call our normal format to give you some news and a long overdue update on what we've been playing.
The podcast question was "Help me do my homework this week! What is your favourite and/or most hated MMO Monster and/or Foe?", which is just getting really lazy if you ask me. Remember kids, friends don't do homework for other friends.
'itunes?' by mchris Submitted on 2009-08-24 07:06:00 CST It might just be me, but the show i down loaded from itunes lasts about 20 seconds. Listening on the VW site is fine though.
'Download problem' by Jon Submitted on 2009-08-24 09:13:25 CST Sounds like your download timed out as the player here gets the show from the same place as iTunes downloads from. Download again and it'll be fine probably.
'Fel Reavers' by Andrew Submitted on 2009-08-24 12:32:47 CST In your podcast question someone mentioned that Fel Reavers were their favorite/least favorite monster. Since neither host has played The Burning Crusade, they could only speculate... so, here's the salient points:
- Fel Reavers are located in the Hellfire Peninsula zone of the Outlands.... this is the first area of the TBC expansion so generally has players of level 58-62 leveling up in it.
- Fel Reavers are level 80 elite creatures. In the TBC era they took a group of 5 level 80's to kill.... and they pretty much one-shot lower level players.
- When a Fel Reaver gets anywhere close to a player your entire screen shakkes with each of their footsteps - they are by no means stealthy at all! You have plenty of warning that they are coming.... which might not matter if you're stuck in combat.
- There is a high level quest to kill a Fel Reaver, which is immensely satisfying after dying a few times to them as a lowbie.
In all the Fel Reavers of Hellfire Peninsula add a lot to the zone - they are fearful monstrosities that advertise their presence by being so damned big and loud. Great additions to the game.
'Oops' by Andrew Submitted on 2009-08-24 12:33:40 CST I meant "5 level 70's" to kill a Fel Reaver in TBC. I'll bet a single level 80 could solo one.
'Mariah?' by mbp Submitted on 2009-08-24 20:13:23 CST Who is this Mariah lass you are keeping company with in Middle earth?
Apologies for my presumption, it being little more than a century since my ancestors abandoned Gaelic for Sasanach but I am pretty sure the correct pronunciation is MORE-EEEE-AH.
In fact it says so on the internet so it must be true:

'Namage!' by Luper Submitted on 2009-08-25 16:09:09 CST Mariah can either be Mah-reee-ah or Mah-rye-ah, but... Moria is deff More-ee-ah as mbp stated. =)
'Moria' by Jon Submitted on 2009-08-25 16:33:46 CST You guys do know that you just challenged me to mispronounce it in as many ways as I can imagine in the next show we record? :)
'Go for it!' by Luper Submitted on 2009-08-25 17:19:19 CST Shall we drink each time you do it? =)
'Yar' by cinderbrood Submitted on 2009-08-28 11:51:01 CST Yup and lots of it, I suggest a nice Whiskey
