Van Hemlock Episode 62Thu, 30 Jul 2009 18:48:00 GMT [download/play]
This week we're back with some news and the results of our latest operation cheapseats games, Runes of Magic and Grando Espada. The result of which may not have quite been the one intended when the feature was thought of.
The twitter question was "It's Holiday Season! What game zone, map, city or hub would you take two weeks off work to go loaf about in?" Not very many votes for planetside this week.
'What?' by Akely Submitted on 2009-07-31 11:43:25 CST Quitting? Only quitters quit!
Seriously:
I've been pondering why Operation Cheap Seats is MMO's only. Since you've yet to group/socialize the game is in many respects like a solo game. This is not criisism, mind you. Just an observation that leads me to think you might as well review/try other games also. The line between MMORPG's and onlini mult-iplayer games is thin - so why not do games like Battlefield 1943, Call of Duty, Burnout, NH 09 (which has great potentiol for online plays, tournaments etc...
Or why nort try a game together. As in the same online game - together. That would allow for grouping to be tried.

'Peggle' by blaktalon Submitted on 2009-07-31 14:39:58 CST Have yet to listen to the show this week, but I finally bit the bullet and bought peggle on the 360 Arcade. It is the single stupidest, simplest game I have ever paid $10 for. That being said I played it for 3 1/2 hrs straight last night. My god is it addicting.
Save me!

Though I can't help but feel our "truncheons only" policy may set us at a disadvantage when confronted with Squad Automatic Weapons and Rocket Propelled Grenades...
'Developers Max Crash the party ...' by Elsyth Submitted on 2009-07-31 23:20:56 CST Been a long time since I played PlanetSide .. originally it was a lot of fun but the developers couldn't stop fiddling with stuff and then put over powered BFRs in the game and gave them temporary invulnerability. Then they wonder why they started losing players ... ahh well ...
I still miss SWG .. it was the one game where you could really play whatever you wanted and Role Players didn't get on your nerves for a change. It was also I think the first MMO to have diplomacy class that worked .. but the developers seem to have screwed that one up too.
What I think I'm getting at is that developers are to focused on tweaking an already working system instead of producing more varied content .. why would a 5% variation of one of my skills interest me more than a new quest?
Anyway, if you found Granado Espada a breath of fresh air you'll likely find Atlantica interesting too.
Tip: if you want to play an Asian MMO try the Filipino Version as they tend to be in English.
'RoM' by Celestian Submitted on 2009-08-03 19:36:43 CST I'm not a huge RoM player, I've played casually tinkering with a few classes and managed to get to 10/10 rogue/knight.
You're side kick needs to do a little more than read the RoM webpage before he talks about a game. Doesn't have mods? It's just like WoW. Curse client even auto-discovers it if you use that.
He played one class and complained about uninspired skills? Perhaps he didn't like the class he chose. Play more than one class before you make your judgments.
If you don't like questing, you shouldn't be playing current MMOs. Put him on the console.
As I said I'm not a huge fanboy of RoM but it's a mildly entertaining F2P game that has a really cool feature with multi-classing. If you liked WoW I can't imagine you'd not like RoM... though to be honest I've no clue what the end game is like.
'@Celestian' by Jon Submitted on 2009-08-04 11:55:25 CST At least that wasn't the review where I stated that I only played the game briefly but thought it looked like a good game, but it made me realise that I was bored with MMOs and should review console games instead for my bit in that segment!
Oh wait, it was. Nevermind. Carry on.
