Van Hemlock Episode 16Tue, 2 Sep 2008 00:08:00 GMT [download/play]
This week we offer uninformed commentary on the news, Jon stands by his strange idea that Conan stands a chance of growing in the future for the very last time (I promise) and we both reveal that our gaming lives seem to be ruled by twitter.
We also have the winner for our competition for an Eve USB pen drive, for which we are very grateful to Valerie "Pann" Massey from CCP and Urban Mongral from the Warp Drive Active Podcast for making us feel that real people may actually know about us. The screenshot with the winning number can be seen here: http://tinyurl.com/6amo2u and congratulations to our winner.
Feel free to follow us on twitter (http://www.twitter.com) as vanhemlock or jonshute, join the vanhemlock group on GAX (http://gaxonline.com/group/vanhemlock) or comment on our show at http://www.virginworlds.com
'Warhammer exploration.' by Melmothulhu Submitted on 2008-09-03 06:37:25 CST Good show, as always!
If you get a chance to read Jeff Hickman's exclusive blog on Ten Ton Hammer, there's a fair bit of 'secret' information he imparts, and the indication is strong that there's plenty of content in WAR that many people just haven't found yet, because the content is tucked away in places players haven't thought to explore yet. Give it a read and see if it lights your explorational fires.
'Exploration and talking about MMO news, and paying just to skill in EVE' by FarSpace Submitted on 2008-09-03 14:47:22 CST Love your show, I like it when you guys talk about the news and give your opinion. Or input or whatever. :)
I like exploration in games too, I love it. It really gives you some credit when people can look at all your accomplishments by clicking on you or what ever, showing others you did not just farm your way to what ever level you're at.
They got a ton a great exploration badges and accomplishment badges and stuff like that in CoX and SWG, also Titles you can put over your head too.
Plus, it's fun when you actually find something like and object or a place that gives you some history or back lore of the world.
Ah yes and EVE ahhh EVE, it is nuts how we pay to just keep our skills training some times? I'm finaly up to about 27mil SP, I think I'll actually not pay and unsubscrib for the first time when taking a brake from EVE. $15 to change a skill 3 times a day to 1 time a month does not seem worth it any more.
'Not sure I agree...' by Inde Submitted on 2008-09-10 19:16:48 CST with your view that a 2 day NooB can be useful in Eve.
Reasons
Yea you can tackle in a fleet in 0.0. Problem few if any 0.0 Corps will accept you and the ones that do will not be having fleet ops everyday so you will need to go back to Empire to make cash or mission run etc could you be arsed running back and forth to Empire and 0.0 - doubt it. Ok I will be honest I am lazy like 99% of the population and I could not be arsed.
You have already spent ages talking about Faction War and how a 2 day noob is a waste of time.
Ok your corp might spare the odd ship or 2 but the majority of 0.0 corps these days expect you to be self sufficient.
I think like any other game I know (including Monopoly) Eve rewards time put in and you can dress it up anyway you want, Eve has levels they just look different.
Oh great podcast because you make me think and entertain at the same time.
