Voyages of Vanguard #9Mon, 9 Jul 2007 03:47:00 GMT [download/play]
This week in the Voyages of Vanguard, Troy laments on having little
time to play Vanguard with all the bustling activity of Summer. He
comments on the many emails he has received on Voyages of Vanguard and
begins a new editorial on tracking some of the bigger threads on the
forums. Troy talks on some issues he is having with the Sony Station
Pass. He also has his first interview of the show, with a player named
Raszadine, and they discuss crafting in Vanguard. He wraps up the show
with a rant of group mentality in the game.

Some of your ideas are great, Troy and you're quite right that what is needed is a MMO friend-tracker, which as you say could easily be done for SOE games, which would make them all the more appealing, as losing track of MMO friends isn't fun...
One thing that was mentioned is the improvement in performance. This is the big reason many people left, so keep us updated on this will ya?
'SOE currently developing a friend-tracker...' by Gigawatt Submitted on 2007-07-09 20:08:41 CST SOE is making a new launcher for all of their games. In this, it will include an IM-like feature, showing all of your friends across all of the games they are playing. It will also have the option to simply click on their name, and launch whichever game they are playing.
It's supposedly being released within the next 2 months.
'Wait a minute -- solo class vs group class!?!' by documatic Submitted on 2007-07-10 14:15:34 CST Okay I've loved this podcast from the start but I have to comment on the idea of solo class vs group class (specifically the cleric). I can't disagree more with the idea of differentiating between the two. So if I follow your logic if I go on the grouping path then from hence forth my cleric will really only be effective in grouping scenarios... I think it really limits gameplay and damages the game longterm. Conversely I wouldn't want to be stuck playing solo all the time either. I want to have the choice to play the game the way I want to play the game. Honestly people complain about every class not being as uber as the next class in every game nor matter how balanced you try to make it. If you browse the WoW boards you will see the same arguments being made over and over again. Let the whinners whine and then build a bridge and get over it. Balancing the classes really should focus on making each class fun to play... yes they should be "balanced" but that word is often overused and not understood. Just remember though SWG players at one point constantly whined about class balancing and then the got the NGE. nough said.
'Use Open RPG ' by BiggDawg98 Submitted on 2007-07-11 10:25:27 CST Open RPG is a free program unlike Fantasy Grounds. I have been running roleplaying games over Open RPG/Fantasy Grounds for the past year or so. As long as you have vent or Skype it works really good.
