Beau forgot to go over sound in Spellborn, which is incredible.
Beautiful sounds of wind and nature, and incredible music. A little
more than ambient, and even though a lot of the music is composed with
strings and classic instruments, you can tell some of the sounds were
done with a keyboard. This gives the game a feel of Sci-fi, without the
aliens, blue people and ray guns. The sound design is amazing.
Also, some Goth band did a video for a song that is now my guilty pleasure song.
'Resolutions' by CindyL Submitted on 2009-01-06 04:51:59 CST Spellborn filled episode, it was good to hear some info, most of it I was quite familiar with but there was some things I'd forgotten about. There is supposed to be housing eventually, it was originally planned for release, then it was for soon after release and now I'm not sure. ;)
I'd like to hear a bit more about the controls, because I though they were really clunky and clumsy. Better yet I'll wait for OP in NA to see for myself but I don't have much hope they changed it.
Leala is right about the camera in AoC it's basically not controllable and is a big annoyance if you're the type who likes to swivel the camera around.
My New Year's Gaming Resolutions are to spend more time in ONE game, I've done way too much MMO hoping and I'm a bit tired of it. I think I'll settle in FFXI and some Runes of Magic until Aion comes out.
If Aion fails me, I'll then look for something else but hopefully by then it'll be 2010. XD
'A Smash Hit....' by Burtimus Submitted on 2009-01-07 04:42:25 CST I laughed, I cried. I kissed an hour goodbye.
Nah, really good show. Even though no "Trial by Fire" segment. What can I say? Enquiring minds want to know why we'd want to pony up a subscription fee knowing their characters are subject to PERMADEATH!
Must be a helluva game, can't wait to hear more about it. ;) Seriously, though, both Leala and Beau have some great ideas for MMOs. Maybe that's not surprising, given their experience, but it's great to hear creative minds at work.
Spellborn sounds intriguing, and I'm loading it as I type this. Can't wait to see how it plays.
As far as New Years resolutions, after careful thought I have but one: Fan Faire. If I can swing it, this would make my third year. It'll be tougher this year, as it's likely to be held on the Yeast Coast, but what the hey. It's worth it.
Great show, as always, guys. As my wife has heard me say, "With a name like Turkey, it has to be good."
'o/ :)' by FarSpace Submitted on 2009-01-07 06:03:11 CST Home Work Section: Resolution for 2009
I'm going to play mmo's with other people that I'm actually friends with. Not just PUG's, or at least play the same mmo's and be able to talk about it with them.
Beau, I perma deathed my character in Guild Wars, it seems a good mmo to do it with, for one thing you can put all your gear and gold into a general lockbox that any character on your account can take and put into, it's like a way to will your stuff to other characters when one dies. I made a new character to be the son of the dead one, like Far Space 2nd/Jr. It give my a huge boost to RP.
Also liked how you 2 sound so happy together, that makes me feel happy too. :)
I heard lots of good well organized info on CoS like how it looks and what the game plays like, the player creation, weapons & items, how the world felt it was helpful, because that stuff is hard for me to understand just from a games website. So thanks for the great review.
It seems like a higher end F2P mmo, so I was curious on how much it was and how far I could go into CoS with out paying and got some good info. imo not bad for a higher quality F2P mmo, and a good way to intro your self to a game with out blindly going into it.
Thanks for the suggestion on Mount and blade too, even if I don't get to it, I alway send hese sggestions to my brothers and friends too.
'resolutions' by JamesTaylor Submitted on 2009-01-07 07:26:19 CST Great show, I loved the CoS talk - got me super hyped...where is this mysterious NA/Europe Open Beta!?
My MMO resolutions?
- Don't be afraid to try new games.
- Give WoW less of my time, but still achieve lvl 80. Have to maintain the trend of hitting every level cap as a different toon in each expansion. Had a 60 druid in vanilla, 70 shaman in TBC, so ? in WOTLK.
- Write more substantial editorial blogs, keep the short stuff to twitter
- dabble in podcasting, make a rough podcast project with a local friend as a co-host

Burtimus: Fan Faire? Oh hell yeh, if we can afford it. I think that was seriously the most fun I had had in a LONNNGGG time. Also, this time around I could do reports on all the games, and I think that would open me up a bit.
FarSpace: His resolution to play with different people, not just pugs, is awesome. I wanna' do this. Far if you do this, write a blog about it so I can link to it. Maybe I'll try it too. It's been a long time since I used chat to say "Anyone need _____ quest? Let's form a group!"

No idea what the podcast will be about yet, still in pre-production/alpha/planning stage. Neither of us is stable enough in one MMO right now to make it a game-centric podcast, but we'll see. Will probably be a general MMO discussion podcast, but we'll have to bring something fresh to the table obviously.
But, my high school yearbook quote was seriously "I've seen fire and I've seen rain - James Taylor," so it read like:
James Taylor
"I've seen fire and I've seen rain"
James Taylor
Was epic.
'RB Drums' by Shawn Submitted on 2009-01-09 12:37:54 CST Dude, I've been playing drums since 7th grade and I can't even play RB2 drums on anything beyond Hard mode. I wish the drums were more representative of how an actual drum set was arranged, and I wish the green drum wasn't sometimes a cymbal, sometimes a tom, sometimes a high-hat and sometimes a cowbell, all in the same song! This is why I usually play guitar in that game :)
Oh yeah, MMO stuff. My gaming resolutions include trying more F2P games and not ever having 4 subs at once ever again.
'FarOut FarSpace' by FarSpace Submitted on 2009-01-09 22:48:36 CST I would like to do a few quests together would be nice. I also like to sometimes take my time and read the quests and take it slow too :)
Right now I got active accounts in Guild Wars and LotRO but I'm willing to reactivate other accounts or make new ones in the future.
No rush at all of course.
Tonight when we all get into Cronous I'm going to try and take notes and practice blogging about it.
There's nothing on it and not worthy yet, so don't link it or anything, but if you or anyone is curious, it is named FarOut FarSpace @ http://farout-farspace.blogspot.com/
But Thanks for offering Beau, I'm still trying to learn how to write a blog and or just write better, It is nice that there are so many people at and around VW to learn from.
P.S. Shawn you Jenna in particular have taught me a bunch so far, now I just have to implement it. Btw my Daughter is still interested in Journalism but she wants to be a teacher, but when I read the Journalism project book to her she started to do it again.

'Bio' by Delph Submitted on 2009-01-10 19:38:44 CST Hi Beau and Leala. You asked for a brief bio on me during this podcast, so here it is. MMOs I have played: EQ 5 years, WOW 1, DDO 0.5, VG 1.5, PotBS 0.3, AOC, WAR and EQ2 all 0.1. so you can see I have played most MMOs and I am an older dude. I play TF2 for PVP and MMOs for PVE. Currently, I am playing some of the single player games I missed while playing the MMOs listed above (Prince of Persia series and Half Life series). Based on your show, I will most likely take on Chronicles of Spell Born as my next MMO.
I really enjoy your Spouse Agro podcast. It is clear that the two of you have a great relationship. My guess is Beau entertains Leala when she is not playing WOW and Leala pesters Beau to play more WOW when he is not playing WOW.
Regards,
Delph
