Sounds like they want to git rid of the DP. That will give you a big felling of accomplishment. If they do that, that would be it and I would probably quit.

My understanding of Trial Island was that it was for trial accounts only. New players who have an account would still start in racial starting zones... there is a lot of content there that it would be a shame to scrap.

And they were working on Khal optimizations at the same time as Trial Island. The Diplo devs in fact were re-tasked to contribute there before they were axed, and that was before the new producer came on-board.

Thanks for the show this week guys. I enjoyed it alot, it helps time go by while im slaving away at work.

In my opinion alot of the changes coming up in the game are unnescesary. I think the droprates for blues and yellows are fine, they are supposed to be harder to aquire than green items. Tho it sure would be nice to see more instrument drops. Death penalty exp loss is fine too, no need to change it as far as i am concerned.

My bards name is an actual name and not just three letters. ;) So its pronounced "Eeax".

Enjoy your vacation, i am looking forward to the next show!

'Have more events' by Belepheriel

Great show, Troy and Karen. My idea about having to travel so far to get to an in-game event is simple. Just have more events going at once. That way players need not travel so far to get to one. Hey SOE, you know all those folks you laid off? Hire them back as event planners and facilitaters.

Also, I am another Ranger who wishes they would not change anything with our class. It is fine the way it is. It is different form other games. SOE really needs to not make changes to the game to make more like other games. If they did, then why play VG?

KEEP THE DEATH PENALTY!! Death Penalty makes for smarter players. Quest item drops could be tweaked up though. I've killed hundreds of Cyclopses for quest item drops. I think they fear me coming up that rocky slope now.

Have a great vacation and I look forward to your next show!

'Do people not check out the game before they start playing?' by Meaninglesscog

Complaints about how large the world is makes me think that people either did not do their research first or are poor at planning their evenings.

This game has been this size since day one. Beta was easy to get into and see how big the world is. Well, I guess it has been made smaller with the rift system.

Am I the only person who plays a game knowing the rules that I have been presented with and play it based on my acceptance of said rules?

If you have to travel 45 minutes to get to a group you are starting off the night in the wrong part of the world. Maybe you need to find people in your guild to group with, that is one of the purposes of the guild and all. Stay in a local area to fight. You should not have to be going all over the place every night to find a group or mobs to kill.

Death penalty? What death penalty? It takes a few minutes to make the experience loss back. Heck, you don't even have to go back to your corpse and get your stuff back because so much of it is soulbound.

Do people who ask for these changes play Monopoly and complain that it takes so long to get around the board before you get your $200? Do they ask for a free hotel every time they pass a railroad space? Ask to be let out of jail free on the next turn? Ask to only have to pay 50% of normal rent prices?

I don't go to EQ2 or WoW and ask the devs to make it more like Vanguard and I don't come to Vanguard asking the devs to make it more like EQ2 or WoW. This is Vanguard, Vanguard is what it is. This is what makes Vanguard unique. When they made instant travel to just about every part of EQ and EQ2 possible it has pretty much killed the feeling of a true world. Vanguard still has this. Apparently there are some people out there who don't like true worlds.

SOE has one major issue they need to address before touching anything else in this game and that is CTDs. Pretty much every night I group with my guildies we have on average one crash per player. Before you can polish a turd (which is apparently what SOE thinks of the current state of the game), it has to be a stable turd.

Hey All,

While I luxuriate in my vacation, I have been spending some time at my blog. I have written several new entries and would love to learn what people thought of my ideas and concepts.

If you haven't visited my blog of late, please do so.

Thank you, Meaninglesscog! You've said in your post what I've felt every time I hear someone complain about Telon being too big or how hard travel is. Drives me nuts! You get horses at level 10, teleport wizards at the major cities and later, Riftway Stones! After that, it's up to you player! Get on your horse and go! This is one huge wonderful world! Everyone should rejoice and explore! I'm telling you if people keep complaining about this game, the devs will change it up so much it won't be Vanguard anymore but some mashup of EQ2 and WoW. Be careful what you wish for!

Travel. We'll see what they d with travel but I think they could decrase travel times without upsetting the world.

1. Make mounts faster.
2. Add perm flying mounts
3. Increas range of summoning spells to maybe 5k and make them so you can do it anywhere

This seems like a balance to me.

Death Penalty. Not sure why this is a big deal. Like others say it hardly impactful now what's the difference if they remove it.

They need new players gong forward and frankly they are reducing some of the barriers of entry to the game. Hopefully the aspects that make the game fun will only be enhanced and more players will make for a better game.

posting for the very first time. As always another great show! I hope two have a great vacation and thank you for the shout out! With that said here is my 2 cents.

Note: Will be quoting from the letter.

"the team has been examining all of the fundamental game mechanics and discussing what we think it is fun to play and what is not."~ ~ To me..fun to play = not crashing. I know he mentions optimization being top on the list. I will believe it when I see..or notice it.

"optimizing our Player Character models" ~ ~ If it streamlines the game sure Halflings look creepy to me right now...i can't look at mine without feeling uncomfortable.

"increasing the visual quality of our character models. Not only will we be delivering you a character that is more appealing to the eye, but we'll also be delivering a model that utilizes less resources and is easier on your computer." ~ ~ Before I say what I think from reading this statement I want to say this, Don't hate me..I'm a man and can't help it sometimes. With that said it sounds like the women of Telon are going slutty! Thats right less armor to rend on them = better performance for all! As well as attracting perverted men around the world and single handedly saving Vanguard! I hope to God that the devs prove me wrong and keep our women modest.

Alright taking way too long so I'll summarize the rest of this.
~Travel = make mounts faster , EQ died to me when the stones went in. Don't do that to Vanguard.
~Drop Rates = seems fine to me, quest drops could use some help though
~Feeling Accomplished = Hot Air imo, or maybe I'm easy to please /wink
~Tactics = Explain the weakness thing in some of the newbie quests or put in some in game tips but I'm still not opposed to more tactics.
~DP = not strict enough I want to feel like someone just kicked me in the genitals when I die...not really if you ask me it is not broken don't fix it.
~The rest = lots of hot air until I see it.
~The newbie island = with EQ2 it fit into the 'lore', and worked. I might be wrong but I don't see it fitting into the Vanguard 'lore'. Better off without it. Don't kill the newbie areas.

Thats my 2 cents...ok more like 2 dollars and some change.

Thanks for another great show.
Very interesting comments about all your thoughts on the producer's letter.
I have the feeling that this new producer was put in place to make quick , decisive changes to Vanguard.
I think Vanguard is one of the most enjoyable MMOs I have played - however it always ran like a dog on my PC and may other people's PCs.
If this new man can change that and add some additional stability to the game you might find SOE ramping up the advertising and doing trials perhaps.
Then this game might finally take off.
I do hope so.

Also Khal - it makes you think that if they can improve the look of Khal and improve the performance at the same time then I guess a lot of these areas were never optimised when the game was released.

Hear you in 2 weeks.
