Voyages of Vanguard #11Mon, 23 Jul 2007 01:29:00 GMT [download/play]
Troy announces that he is going to the Sony Fan Faire and is tickled
pink at the prospects of meeting Sony developers. He also has two
interviews with Razadine and Sam; over at Uberguilds Radio. We hear
Troy talking on all sorts of things, from his new word he is coining,
called Vazz, to his sad farewells to Varka Thrin. He laments his
trouble focusing on one character, and expresses his outrage at dying
via CTDs and his inability to access Dockmasters because of player made
boats blocking his path.

'Levels' by Token Submitted on 2007-07-23 02:48:59 CST Wow Troy I can't believe the differences in volume on this interview with Sam. This isn't live radio theres no excuse for it, you don't want to scare off more listeners.
'Sound' by scytale2 Submitted on 2007-07-23 05:23:21 CST Yes, you must be aware of this, Troy, but the section with QforQ was very hard to listen to. Any chance this bit could be re-edited?
Keep the dog in, though:)
'Rest of show' by scytale2 Submitted on 2007-07-23 07:12:11 CST Well it was just the QforQ segment that was problematical, the rest was fine.
I think I have decided to give Vanguard another try as soon as I have fitted some new RAM on my PC, so congrats on persuading me.
On the crafting - did not Razodine say that complications can help you improve the quality of items? I agree that it can be frustrating not to be able to predict complications and thus sometimes you have to bite the bullet or have the wrong tool belt. Frankly, they simply need to do what you say - increase the size of the toolbelt, or make the programme automatically select the right tools for the type of crafting that you are doing and ditto select the right items to counter any complications that are likely to crop up. If you don't have the items on your person, because perhaps you've never encountered that complication before, then that is fair enough - you need to go and acquire the relevant missing items. One might also say that if a complication is 90% solved, then the remaining 10% only costs a proportion of the action points to resolve it?
Anyway, this seems easily solvable.
'Often audio is hard to control' by Shalimar616 Submitted on 2007-07-23 15:42:54 CST Hey Everyone,
I would like to comment on Token's reference that there was no excuse for having poor audio in the recent show; but in fact there are many excuses I have for it.
I do recognize that the interview with Sam, at uberguilds radio, was not the best. At the time of recording the sound meters all looked good and we could clearly hear each other. After the recording session, I discovered the problem . I had to make a choice of either putting the interview in the show, or dropping it. I decided that although it wasn't of the normal quality of the show, Sam could be heard clearly -- and he was the focus of the interview.
Secondly, Token mentions that this isn't live radio, which it isn't, but its also not commercial radio either. I wear every hat at Voyages of Vanguard, and often its daunting to put everything together. Also, as most of you know, there is no sponsor for the show and costs time and money (money in the sense if I had to buy the hardware and software to produce the show). Sadly as it is, VoV is a money losing project, and often must squeek by on limited resources. I am devoted to both Vanguard and my listeners and try my best to create a solid show each week. With my learning process, and limited resources, sometimes cracks appear in content or delivery.
Lastly, each show has been progressively better. Often this measurement is hard to see from the listeners point of view, but I have come a hell of a way in the last two months since VoV #1 went live and am proud of each and every one. That being said, I will try in the future to create solid content with loud and sound delivery.
I understand that in today's arena of highly professional and often very expensive productions that the standard for what is acceptable is very high. I will continue to polish and hone my skills in engineering for a pleasant listening show.
Pump up the VAZZ!!

Don't get me wrong; I always appreciate comments both positive and negative. Its posts like yours that keep me honest and working to improve the show.
I just wanted to point out that there are many factors that go into the production of a show, and sometimes, because we are not a commercial site, we have to bite the bullet and accept things that are less than perfect.
Please keep sending me comments, both good, bad, and UGLY. I appreciate them all!!

'Crafting Guide' by varka Submitted on 2007-07-23 22:12:11 CST Hi Troy,
You can indeed control your complications (to a certain extent). I've pushed this guide a few times, because I can't recommend it enough:
It explains just about everything you'd want to know about crafting. With regards to complications, your station skill effects how often you get complications. As a basic test, a low station skill build will net you about two or three times as many complications as a high complication skill build. There is a section all about builds and how to distribute your skills depending your focus.
I enjoyed the show once again, looking forward to the crafting show next week.
Varka
PS. Thanks for the mention in moving on. EQ2 crafting is soooo easy, I can actually walk away from my computer and watch TV while it makes stuff for me, how does that compare with people watching while they play in VG? :)
'More Crafting' by varka Submitted on 2007-07-23 22:19:30 CST Now that I think about I should respond to some of the other points above.
I use two toolbelts, one with my refining tools, one with my finishing tools. I don't use rigging/repair tools at all, but once you get a little bit more skill you'll have several options when countering complications, including utilities actions, station actions and even actions that only use a few APs to counter those pesky little complications that have 10% left. Before I had more options I had a third 'complication' toolbelt.
And finally, as your base skills (eg. armorsmithing) go up you can table more components when you start the recipe.
