'Cleric Thread' by documatic Submitted on 2007-07-17 12:40:28 CST Hey Troy, great show again. Thanks for responding in show about my previous comments on show #9. I hear where your coming from, but I think if you really wanted a feature like that I think you would really need more of a talent tree (which is a completely new system for Vanguard). I would actually love to see this (hint SOE), as we already have this in WoW and EQ2. It helps define the characters out of a generic feel and let's you really tune how you want to play. EQ1 kinda suffered from this as you didn't have that many different models, people tended to improve the same skilla, same spells etc. At the end of the day people grew tired of being generic cleric #2456. While having a talent tree would help you still need to enable a reset of some sort because people change there mind all the time. Did I really want the nuke everyone tree? The thing with specialization is it does fundamentally change how you interact when looking for players. What kind of Cleric are you... we only want the uber group Cleric... blah blah blah...
'Crafting' by documatic Submitted on 2007-07-18 14:11:00 CST Again... I want to say what a fantastic podcast this was. The information on crafting is a real help. I wish Sony/Sigil had really documented this better, but with your help I think I actually may give crafting a try again. The only other thing I would comment on is the rant of the week. While I understand your frustration (believe me I do) it's not as simple as banning accounts. Blizzard has been doing that for the last few years and it has only increased. I made a comment on a similar thread a few days ago about gold farming. Take a look at that thread and you can see some of the issues. Looking forward to your next podcast.
'Banning accounts etc.' by scytale2 Submitted on 2007-07-19 06:59:48 CST I don't think this was the nub of Troy's argument. What he was saying is that "if there was a will, there would be a way." Basically, if porn sites were advertising or a big company like Coca Cola was using WoW to promote its goods, then (and perhaps cynically) WoW would suddenly find the money to sort the problem out once and for all.
I think Blizzard takes the view that this goldfarming issue is part of the transitory nature of MMO at the moment, where the market is developing and no one yet knows quite where it is going to end up. The goldfarming issue will have matured imho into something somewhat more professional and responsible in a few years.
The 90+ min podcast seemed to go really fast, so you must be keeping it interesting. Was quite amusing to hear the "It's my podcast, No it's my podcast!" banter between yourself and your crafting expert, who was just as fun to listen to as last time. It is annoying that people slate the Vanguard crafting system, when it is obviously the best one ever written.
