Travels with Troy #9
Mon, 19 Jan 2009 18:02:00 GMT [download/play]

Hello everyone!  Yep, I am back and ready to podcast.  In this week's show I talk about where I have been for the last six months. I talk about my writing, looking for an agent, and two MMOs that I have been playing. I also have been having a blast with games from the past, and I talk briefly about the fun I have been having with them.  I also talked about my new Nintendo DS and for the main segment of the show, I share my 20 New Year's Resolutions.

I would be very interested in hearing from anyone about the show at: troy [at] virginworlds.com

It has come to my attention that the dosbox site has been compromised. Please use the site with caution: www.dosbox.com

I have found allot of old games at: www.abandonia.com

I'm in the same boat as Token... I haven't listened yet but am really glad to see you're back! You are one of the VirginWorlds veterans and there's definitely been a void for the last six months. I'm glad to see that void filled.

...but it kicked my butt. I tried a new character, and was enjoying it.

I met some nice people, but am still kind of lost.

There's something very cool about it, or charming, so it will stay on my play list! Maybe I'll give it some more time!

Good to hear you back!

About your book, it really sounds totally cool. Virtual reality chamber, teenagers, questing, interesting characters. That is absolutely awesome. I will so buy it.

Hey Beau!

Have you tried the game with the mercs? I freely admit that game has some serious learning curves -- I felt like a complete newb for the first day. Actually feeling like the newb was kinda cool -- it brought memories back when EQ was the only show in town and people fought to get into the servers.

Back in the day my buddy Sony would actually show the server populations. EQ is not for the feint of heart and you must earn your WINGS in this game -- unlike all the others where they are pretty easy to play (to play not to level -- just want to make that point).

Anyway, the mercs really open the game up. I am seriously thinking of two boxing again (woots 4 toons!!).

...and started to get one, but then I wasn't sure which one to get. lol

I have a 37 character that has the cash, but on my newbie character I wouldn't be able to afford them. I should jump in and try them out.

There's something about EQ, it's nostalgic, but exciting. I wish it had the great crowds it used to have. On my server everyone is so high level, but they are friendly.

Thanks for re-peaking my interest!

'Old Games' by Brad

Glad to see you back. Beings you like some of the old games, why not go real old school and download one of the MAME setups and grab a DVD set of a bunch of the old roms. They fall into the abandonware category. I got into them several years ago, going as far as gutting an old Omega Race cabinet and putting in a 24" monitor with arcade controls. Its nice to fire it up and play old games like Defender, Robotron 2024, Centipede, Venture, etc on it. It doesn't take much processor power to do it, but it bring back memories of dropping quarters in the arcade when I was a kid.

You can see some old pics here -> http://arcadecontrols.com/Mirrors/mirror/wotlmud.home.comcast.net/mame.html

Hi Troy, glad to see you're podcasting again, welcome back. Concerning your book stuff, just thought you might be interested in this site I found a couple months ago. I found it while re-listening to JC Hutchin's 7th Son series:

www.http://www.podiobooks.com

Whenever I'm looking for something new to listen to, I usually check that site out. Anyway, thought it might be an option to check out at least. I always need something new to listen to as I craft in Vanguard :)
