Travels with Troy #8
Sun, 13 Jul 2008 20:57:00 GMT [download/play]

This week in the Travels with Troy, I talk about the fantastic announcement of Diablo III and then ponder how long we will have to wait for it. I then talk about the exciting things going on in Everquest II and tell everyone about the fantastic offer Sony is giving to those who return to either Everquest or Everquest II.  I then go into a two part segment on TMOG Spellcasting -- This 56-page PDF talks all about spellcasting in the game, including power, spell realms, cantrips, spells, and a host of similar topics.  I wrap the show up with my experimentation with energy drinks.  I then talk about three new energy drinks I have tried over the last several weeks: Red Bull, Rockstar Juiced, and AMP-Overdrive!  Finally, I wrap the show up talking about Everquest II game play and implore my listeners to help me out in the wickedly fun game of Civilization IV (help my empire is being trounced)!!

Energy Drink Score:
Red Bull: 4
Rockstar Juiced: 8
AMP-Overdrive: 6

When I heard Diablo III was coming out, I was instantly *cheering* and *screaming* and *dancing*. ^_^

All I have to say... is ZOMBIE WALLL OF DEATH!!!! I mean, can you really get any better than that? I bet you cant guess which char I'm playing? =P Anyways, I'm super excited about Diablo III. We should group up or something. I really can't wait.

I'm also interested in Darkfall. I dont know if you've heard much about that, but maybe you can talk a bit about that on your next cast. It looks good. Also, I heard of EQ Classic. Have you heard of that yet? I want to play an Ogre Shaman. They were massive. hehe.

Loved the energy drink deal. Have you ever heard of Bawls? I think its the best energy drink and it taste good mixed with some liquor. (I never said that =P) You should try it out and tell me what ya think. I think you can get it in 8 or 16 oz. and it costs like $3 or something.

When you talked about EQ II at the end there, it really made me think of how my boyfriend and I used to group back in the day. I really miss those times. Good memories were made. I need more times like that. =)

... the witch doctor's spells are semantic, verbal or do they use a component? =)

Sorry for the double post, but I just realized I probably answered your question about CIV4 on the wrong place. So here it is:

In Civilization 4 the AI will really try its best to pursue one of the victory conditions. Expecially if you patch the game and have the latest expansion, Beyond the Sword, the game is not easy at all :)

Back to your question, doesn't matter how good the relationship with the other countries are, if they think you are an easy target they will attack you.
What you want to do is to check quite often the Military Power graph and see how well placed you are there. Consider that the more cities you have, the more power you need to have to have the enemy consider you dangerous.
In other words, the actual power of a country is the level of the bar in that graph, divided by the number of cities.

Let us know how the next game goes.

IDK, you're meant to get a game developer to give up some of his valuable time to appear on your show before pod-fading really...

Hey friends,

Just a note to everyone that I am trying to put together a show here in the next few weeks. It has been extremely tough under the present circumstances.

I have been feeling extremely burnt out on MMOs of late. I have been playing a scant few hours a week in Everquest 2 and have even discontinued both of my accounts in the game. I have been playing Tearm Fortress 2 which have been fun, but hardly an MMO or worth talking about.

My real world job has also been extremely hectic. Without going into too much details, my job has altered significantly from a support position to supervisory -- leaving me exhausted when I get home.

I hope to return here soon with some thoughts on MMOs and game playing.

Boy I sure can sympathize on the supervisory position making your world hectic. And you're totally doing it the right way. Taking that breather to make sure things stay good. That was one of the reasons why my show ended up with its "every 3 to 4 weeks" schedule. That was the only way I could give my job and family the needed time and still make sure the show I released was the quality I wanted. I've always taken my hat off to those who could release a show every week or so. That's an amazing ability!
Can't wait to hear your next show! We miss ya man! I know the overtime nights I work during the week in my job just aren't the same without listening to the podcasts with Troy. :)

After more than four months off, I am back working on a new show. I have so many ideas to talk to everyone about, from what I have been doing for the last several months to the future of MMOs.

Expect a show here in the next couple of weeks, and I hope you will take a listen when it comes out!
