This week Troy returns to the show after a couple weeks of being on vacation and just feeling blah!  Troy talks about going "Cold Turkey" without his computer and the internet while on vacation, and the feeling of being at loss without the world wide web.  He then starts a discussion on some of the negative aspects of the Age of Conan -- and although he admits that the game is technically flawless there are allot of problems in the game that needs to be worked out.  Troy moves on to his 6th commentary of TMOG: Skills of Phantasm Adventures; he details how skills are selected, learned, and how to determine a score to succeed -- Please download the pdf here.  He wraps up the show with asking the listeners to send an email or post on the forums, which kinds of energy drinks they have tried.

Troy you should hook up with Sara Pickell and get this game going!!

You're going to get to the point that basically all you'll need is a huge wad of cash, then BAM you are heading a game company.

I wanna' work for you.

I can like, get coffee at first, then move on to filing or something.

I enjoyed the show, Troy. I really enjoy listening to your ideas about Phantasm Adventures. It sounds like you have put an awful lot of thought into this game. I appreciate that you are sharing it with your listeners.

Red Bull and Amp are decent, but I can't say whether or not they improve my gaming performance. There are several new flavors of Amp out right now, but I have only tried the original, Mountain Dew derivative. I think my main energy beverages would have to be iced chai teas and mochas from Starbucks. I used to be able to get a decent wifi connection from the Starbucks near my house, so I'd often go there to play LotRO. I think those drinks did have an effect on me to some degree. One or two mochas later, I had no qualms about hopping on voice chat and yelling "GET THESE FILTHY ORCS OFF ME, DANGIT!!" amidst frightened patrons. My laptop has a built-in microphone so it just looked like I was talking to myself.

I’m glad you got a nice break from everything, welcome back.
Energy drinks? For me there is only one; the original “Monster†energy drink. I’m not into the other flavors of Monster, but the black and green can; that’s my choice. There are three different sizes that I am aware of 16oz, 24oz, and the massive 32oz. BFC. For me the taste is great with no bitter after taste. The big bonus of course is the energy gained. I’m not talking about the energy that fizzles in 20 minutes leaving you crawling to the refrigerator for another can. More like 3-4+ hours later you’re still asking yourself “WT..? When is this crap letting go? I need to sleep.†For me it’s Monster drink. Other than that I grab a can of Dew when I need a little pick me up.

'AoC Quests' by Gnova

I've also been playing a lot of AoC and like it a lot.
The questing in Tortage is a bit of a chore but I have a slightly different take on it.
I don't mind progressing through quests. Questing systems in modern MMOs are basically a way to hide that fact that the player is in fact still solo grinding mobs. They all, pretty much, involve going somewhere and killing a mob in a certain area until you get all the drops you need to complete the quest. Often the XP you get from killing the mobs is larger then the quest reward but the kills come in little ticks on the xp bard and the turnin is a large chunk that is immediately visible.
Where I think the questing system falls down a bit in AoC is that you don't have to kill nearly enough mobs to complete a quest. Make me kill three times the number of animals for the gem drops but give me xp and a decent reward on turnin. What this does is reduce the travelling back and forth, running to and fro, that is non-stop in the game. Basically, instead of doing three kill 10 rats quests I would rather have one kill 30 rats quest. More time killing less time travelling.
The other issue is the length of the quest chains. They go on and on and on and..... I hit level 20 and decided to "finish" off the quests in Tortage before moving on. But, "Everytime I think I'm out they pull me back in!". I'd love to finish all the quests before moving on but just how many times do I have to be sent back to the White Sands Isle or the other zones before I cry uncle.
As for the rarity of trash mobs to kill for quest updates do the competition, change to a less populated version of the instance. Funcom could definately look and reducing the spawn timers in the lowbie areas though.

I drink coffee, tea and Red Bull. Not all at the same time, though. :)
