Travels with Troy #4Mon, 12 May 2008 04:54:00 GMT [download/play]
This week Troy has four segments of the show: The Essential Conan, Part
II; A discussion on Slickdeals.net; Interview with Karen from Shut Up
We're Talking; and the 4th chapter in TMOG: Phantasm Adventures.
In the first segment, Troy talks about the history of the lands of
Hyboria, retelling the tale of its creation and the formation of the
kingdoms. He then goes on to talk about an interesting site where he
often goes to find great deals on computers, videos, and other items.
Rounding out the show, Troy is so overjoyed to have his co-host Karen
back to talk about "Girls & Gaming". Ending the show, Troy
discusses Chapter 4 of Phantasm Adventures: TMOG
and the rules governing Background Picks.
'About female gamers.. ' by Luper Submitted on 2008-05-13 00:21:21 CST I think Karen missed one small thing. She did make some great points, and tried not to generalize female gamers into one category or another, but I think that there are a few ways that developers could make female gamers enjoy the game more, or be more interested in it. In many games that I've seen, female characters are either almost naked, or we look like men. The female characters on the cover of the box for the game never look quite like the characters in the game. Female character models should look more like females, and the gear they wear should show that they are females, in my opinion.
I'll use Vanguard as an example, since this is the game I currently play. If you look at the game box, the characters in game look nothing like that, nor does the gear they wear look like that. I guess it is just a little disappointing. I'm sure for the men that play the game, they feel the same way. I suppose that this is probably not only something that females notice, but it is something that I would like to see change.
I don't think that females are more of the raiding type, or the crafting type. Everyone has their preferences. I prefer to see the adventuring side of things. I just can't sit and craft for hours. It's not my thing.

'AoC?' by BurntSushi Submitted on 2008-05-13 11:34:05 CST Heya Troy. Curious as to what server type that you are going to roll on for Age of Conan?
I myself am looking at RP-PVP.
Also wondering if you are planning a podcast for AoC?
'Anyone know the names of the Servers?' by Shalimar616 Submitted on 2008-05-13 18:20:02 CST I am going to be playing AoC and will be podcasting about it on the show. Does anyone know the names of the servers?
'Servers' by BurntSushi Submitted on 2008-05-13 21:13:30 CST No names as of yet. I don't think that we will know until May 17th or the 16th.
Are you in the Early access Troy?
'Early Access?' by Shalimar616 Submitted on 2008-05-13 21:39:16 CST I have the game pre-ordered through the Virginworlds link of Amazon. I am unaware of any early access? I would assume I would get the game within a week of it being released.
I have not played the beta so will be walking in blind to the game -- but one thing I hope they do is have a class that gains more battle prowess for wearing little armor and carrying less -- sort of like the Monk's in EQ1 where the lighter they are, the better they fight. I envision a Conan like character in a breach cloth and nothing else, kickin the crap out of armored troops.

'Early Access.' by BurntSushi Submitted on 2008-05-14 12:54:50 CST Troy, for early access you can log into Amazon and check your Media Library under My Account and your early access code will be there.
You then need to go to https://register.ageofconan.com and create an account. You would have to pay a $5 fee for the early access, then you can start playing on the 17th and you will also get an additional 10 days for the $5 fee.
As for a class that is more effective with less armor, well there isn't anything like that, but from what it sounds like a Barbarian or Assassin is what you are looking to play, but if stealth isn't your bag; You could also roll up a Herald of Xotli or a Conquerer.
One aspect that I enjoy about Age of Conan is the diversity among the classes. You really are not pigeon holed into a defined role. Sure there are "Tank" classes, but you can still bring the hurt.
Hope to see you in game and if I take your head off or polish my blade with your entrails....... Well my apologies upfront.
