The Drone Bay Podcast #2
Tue, 11 Mar 2008 04:14:00 GMT [download/play]

The Drone Bay returns for Episode 2! Yes, it's the third episode, and I definitely had to re-record the intro 2 or 3 times to stop saying Ć¢Episode Three,' but meh. This week brings you more of the discussion, guides, and listener mail that you've been asking for. As always, please contact us with any suggestions or feedback.

Bring on the Drones:

First off is the weekly recap, where the guys discuss the end of the tourney (congrats Ev0ke!), the stalling out of the Delve offensive (for now), and the Council of Stellar Management. Also, the guys got a bit more media attention this week, which is good, because our egos need inflating. Check out Crovan's CSM blog entry which got a bit of press from Massively and Ten Ton Hammer this week. CK's economic segment notes also made Massively's front page, so we are all feeling smugly superior for a bit.

In DON'T PANIC, thanks to popular demand, the crew discusses corporations and how to look for employment in EVE. One site we are plugging this week is EVE-Careers, a very slick looking database and classifieds site for both employers and prospective employees.

In the listener feedback section, the guys tackle a few questions about starting out in PvP, as well as explaining just what on earth skill hardwirings are for.

The discussion this week centers on suicide ganking, particularly the recent all out war on high sec miners on behalf of Goons and their alts. Tune in for their sage and wise suggestions, all in a continuing theme of telling CCP how to run their game.

Please, please keep giving us feedback. We can't get to everything every week, but we do appreciate the input and questions. Also, please drop us a Skype voicemail or e-mail us an mp3 if you want to hear your own voice on the show (provided you sound decent and don't talk nonsense).

Awesome that you read and discussed my question

I am checking out the pirate blog!

Keep up the good work, I am sure I'll have more questions.

Thanks for keeping it under 1.5 hours, which happily enough is the amount of time it takes me to get to work.
Suicide ganking is lame but it's part of the New Eden so there's not much to be done.
Here's hoping your Skype works soon.

You guys are awesome and I wanted to thank you for Plugging The Addicted Gamer on this episode.

I also want to thank you for making me aware that you have four sponsors and I have none. And now I am going to stop podcasting forever, join the French Foreign Legion and cry in my cookies till I die...

Seriously now... You guys are great!! Now if I only had time to listen to every podcast this will be replacing. Sucks for them, this one is aces.

Great podcast, a viable complement to Warp Drive Active. Listening to your well done corporation advisement was useful, made me realize what had gone wrong the last time I played Eve a few years ago.

I am going to start again soon, and with information like this I feel a lot more confident about what to do than last time.

Glad you found the sponsorship you need to keep up the good work!

'Suicide Ganking' by Scott

Enjoyed the show. On the topic of suicide ganking in hi-sec I don't think the answer is breaking the sandbox aspect of the game with a 'easy' fix of making the game like theme park MMO's with PvE, nor do I feel CCP would ever cave to that pressure either as its not part of their games vision. An artificial limit like that preventing pvp in high sec just wouldn't fit.

I would like however to see more realistic mechanics that have been suggested many times over. First off they should void insurance for ships destroyed by Concord, gankers shouldn't be re-imbursed for willful destruction of their ships involved in criminal or terrorist acts.

Second, I think their sec status should take a heavier hit for criminal or terrorist acts caught by concord. So if concord attacks a player in response to their attack of another player in hi-sec, they should take a higher status hit than normal.

Those two deterrents should be enough to keep anything but the most determined griefers from extended suicide ganking and retain the same immersion and realism in the game that we have now.
