The Drone Bay Podcast #17: Clearing the Cobwebs
Wed, 3 Dec 2008 20:39:00 GMT [download/play]

This week, it's a one man show as Crovan takes the mic sans CK and Al. Holidays and work/school schedules have prevented the crew from getting together for this show, but expect to see everyone back together Soon (tm).

To begin with, Crovan discusses his return from a hiatus from EVE and dabblings in other games, but now he is back, and flying with some old friends again.

In official EVE news, the Sixth Alliance Tournament is announced! If you are interested in watching, commentating, or participating, make sure you read up!

For this week's Don't Panic, Crovan covers weapon grouping, which is one of the niftier new features of Quantum Rise.

As always mail is read and teeth are gnashed.

The tradition of a short out of EVE segment at the end of the show is repeated this week, as Crovan takes a look at Left 4 Dead.

I was the first to bash good ol' crovan for that abomination called episode 16. Mainly because i felt there was a standard that had been abandoned. Episode 17 has regained that former standard and i cant tell you how pleased i am that it is back. I am excited about the show again and look forward to more "timely" shows in the future. Excellent show crovan and i look forward to seeing the group back together in the future episodes!

It is said that he once destroyed a Avatar with a velator...

It is said that he has had his way with Empress Jamyl Sarum... repeatedly...

It is said that he can scare away blobs with just his pod...

It is said that he could stop the war with a word... but he won't until all Caldari and Amarr are wiped clean from New Eden...

It is said that he podded the CEO of Quafe when it was suggested they would change the formula of their drink...

He is Crovan, and he's back...

Good to have you back Crovan. Best podcast ever. Hope to have more "Don't Panic" segments in the future.

A great episode. Very humble and intelligent commentary. No podcast out there discusses core tactics and ship fittings like you did this episode. You went over tactics in detail and everything was spot on. You guys will be top of the podcast pack if you keep that up.

It was actually not as bad as I would have thought to have just one of you run the show for a week. In fact I think it would be a good idea for one of the three of you to do a show anyway each week even if the other two can't make it. This has two benefits. One, there would be a podcast each week which would keep your listener base happy. Two, you would really mix up the format. Having all three of you on is great and you should keep doing that, but you lose some of the individual talent when its all of you.

Either way, keep up the work and hopefully we can hear a new TDB every week. Maybe WDA will get off their butts and put another show out! Kudos Crovan!

... that Crovan was contacted by the Broker for a deal, that if he were to give the Broker full access to Body Count's assets, Crovan would receive a sonic version of vitoc to play in the background of TDB. Once Crovan had received the sonic vitoc recording, he blew up the Broker's ship as he "pretended" to send the password to Body Count's coffers.
As of today, Body Count is safe and for several episodes of TDB this "Sonic Vitoc" recording has been playing at a sub-auditory level enslaving us all to TDB.

"You were not prepared" and are now a slave to TDB

If you have not played #17 yet, there is no point in not playing it for you have already been infected and must now play it lest you die of missing you'r dose of sonic vitoc. And Crovan is obligated to continue putting out more podcasts of TDB or else be blamed for the death of thousands.

Have a nice day! ;-)

'EVE Reputatuions' by FarSpace

I had a question for Drone Bay. I was thinking in EVE you can never change your name and after spending what some one would consider a long time skilling in EVE, what ever that is to them, 6 months 2 yrs, 5 yrs. How serious can it get as far as reputation and that link to the players character name?

Personally my EVE name " FarScape III " is pretty safe, I never had him do anything messed up in the game, he has been pretty mellow etc...

Some of the things in EVE that may make it hard to live with your character:
One world shard, so not being able to hide on another server via transfer.

Or your character getting a really bad reputation so bad you can not play it anymore.

Ability to be extremely hated almost in real life by things you could do to mess up someone's day in EVE. Although some can get away with it by the way they do it like putting a funny spin on it.

Skilling a character for 2 yrs and its like if you wanted to start over it would take another 2 yrs of yours or someone's time to skill up again, hard price to pay to change your name.

There are allot of good reasons to keep it this way but I'm just asking about it because it seems so interesting to me.

I mean were talking hear you are 4 yrs later and you can't stand your EVE name any more, what do you do?

My main's name in EVE is FarScape III

I forgot to say I realise that it's cool to make people be more responcible for their actions because of the reputation one could get either way in EVe an all.

I'mjust saying it is interesting how that is in EVE.

Also I'd like to point out that you have a universal name that only can be changed one time on an account in CoX too, sure you can change your characters name in CoX but not your universal name.

That is pretty hard core in CoX imo.

How would people feel if you had a unicersal name that could not be changed on your EVE account?

And what if in EVE, other players just had to right click on you to find out what your universal name was? the universal name belonged to all og your characters

Someone could not have that alt on the same account act like a but head while your main kept a great reputation.

btw my main has 35 mill sp and been playing over 2 yrs I think it was, I'm glad I did not do anything stupid or really bad, I would hate to give all that time up. Unless I guess some people can change their reputations around sometimes too.

'Two sides of EvE..' by Edward78

Ok I am well maybe crazy isn't the right word. Anyway EvE I want to play because of all you can do, plus the movies from CCP make it look fun, but the game is not that fun for me, boring really. Like the weapon range is a bit of a pain & the time it takes to travel.

Edward, I too found it a little boring at first, but once I found friends, joined a corp and gained skills it became much more fun. That being said, Eve does have a steep learning curve, and many tips/tricks to make your experience better. For instance when traveling, instead of using autopilot, do you set destination and then warp to the gate and jump each one? This makes travel a lot faster. Also, depending on the weapon, the ammo type affects range. Study all you can, visit sites like Eve university, and use the in game help icon to do the tutorials. Good Luck, Lee.

Thanks for the great reply, a big prob. is how small the GUI font is, it is readable, but kind of hard for me to read. I have glasses also, is there any way to increase the UI font size past the biggest option in the settings?

I dont know how to make the font larger than the settings in the UI, but hopefully you have a nice large monitor to play on, which will help as well, I play on a 20 inch and cant imagine using anything smaller. There is actually a video on youtube of a guy playing Eve on a giant flat screen TV which I think would be awesome to do. If I were you I would also send a mail (either in-game or through the forums) to CCP as to having difficulty seeing the small fonts. Also, if anyone else has any input as to this (Crovan??) feel free to chime in with your thoughts..............Lee

'@Edward78 widescreens' by FarSpace

I wanted to let you know that I now use a flat widescreen 22" monitor and text is extreamly crisp now and it's much easyer to read text in EVE too now. even set to 1680X1050, so yeah I agree with mrlee770 a big flat screen widescreen will help. my old one was a 19" catho ray tube or wahatever they call it, blurry thing it was compared to the widescreens.
