Witty Ranter #9

"The RP vs XP Discussion continues, with most of the same old faces (Brenden, you in trouble, ese!) and a new face, Luper from the Voyages of Vanguard podcast!  We continue the discussion of last week, branching off to discuss getting players involved into creating RP situations via in-game tools like the devs have, along with much hilarity.  Enjoy!"

I meant to put my name in the hat to continue the RP vs XP conversation but I was in the Keys for my bday!

Looking forward to more, and great to hear Crazy Bean's gradual assimilation of Brent's Collective =D

Sorry again for talking over all these great guests. I really like this panel, and would love to have a beer with these guys and talk about this stuff!

There's something nice about fantasizing about games along with such cool people.

I...

I...love.....you guys.

It's ok Beau,

I don't hold it against you for talking and wanting to get your point across... although I think next time I may have to try a ball gag so John can get a word in edgewise! Apparently when we get older, we get more polite... or something.

It was a fun show, and there was still plenty of good discussion.

Who knows what round 3 will bring? :)

My guess is, a lot of discussion, either way!

TIME SINK vs GRIND
All but a few people (hard core)from time to time needs to take a break from the grind. Role Playing is a great way to kill a little time in game. Y'all said the MMO's need to have tools for the RPer's to role play with or Time Sink toys. Time Sinks are not all bad if people can in-joy them. TS(Time Sink) can be all most any thing from the camp fire idea's to mini games like card games (Poker) and player housing. Any thing that takes you from the grind for XP is a TS. OK so lets look at what most RPer's want for there RP. Siting in a chair or laying in a bed or on the ground. Does not sould like much fun to most people ,but for the hard core Role Players this is a big one. for a true role player it does not take much to make them happy. Thay just want a few thing to let them act out there life. Having families would be the biggest RP tool you could ever put in a game. For the non-hard core role player ,things like the mood maker would be cool for every one. For me I wish thay could write two codes for most games one for role players and one for the rest of the people. Put a clicky botton in options to turn it on and off. I know that will never happen ,but would be nice. Mini games would be a very fast way to add TS for RPers and non-RPers. How meny card games can you think of? How meny board games are there that could be put in the game. NOT just in a pop up window ,but really in the game so you can sit down in a chair and play. JOB's would be a good TS for both sides. Jobs would be great for role players. time to go to work. Hi Ho Hi Ho it's off to work I go... Allso for the non-role player it would be a way to make some money with out having to just craft. Any NPC job could be turned into some thing that a player could do and get paid for. City Events are a great way to kill time. It can be as simple as wood cuters cuting a new road from one town thru the woods to the othere town. It could be miners digging up rocks for the road or to build a great wall to go around the town. There is tons of things that could be done like that. The thing is that the role player can and will take and make any TS in to a role playing tool. This should not be that hard for the Dev's to add most of this into a MMO old or new. It's all about the little things. when you start adding up the little thing it can become some thing big and great for all players. The more you give any player to do the better.

sorry for the late post.

'Jobs and Mini games' by Luper

Mini games are pretty cool. Vanguard just recently put in a checkers game and I played it for the FIRST time yesterday! It was awesome. I loved it. Now that my house is pretty much decorated, it made it a lot of fun. I also have my long loved beer pong table still.. I just moved it into its own room. haha

Anyways, I loved the idea of jobs Alik. I've seen it in other games... and I wish Vanguard would put some kind of job system in where we could make money or items or something.. idk, I think it would be cool. Well, not every game can have everything we like. Sad really.. I need to make my own game! ^_^ Anyone got a few million dollars to help me out? =)

haha, thanks for reading my rantage..

I just wanted to let you know that I've really enjoyed these past two episodes discussing RP vs XP. I am an RPer who has turned into an XP grinder, simply because that's how the content is presented. Sometimes I feel bad that I don't read the quest dialogue, but I quickly forget about that when I run off to go kill ten more wolves.
