EQual Perspectives #12
Sun, 2 Mar 2008 13:04:00 GMT [download/play]

In this week's episode of EQual Perspectives, Troy, Karen and Bill have several shout-outs to friends and guildies.  They then talk about the crazy and wildly funny website Zero Punctuation, and end the segment imploring people to write Bill, with fan or hate mail. Troy then relates his many stories of GDC with snippets about Age of Conan, Requiem Bloodmare, and the Chronicles of Spellborne -- also, Troy tells of his fortune of having dinner with Scott Hartsman and Alan Crosby.  Karen, Troy and Bill then talk of the announcement of Vivox joining forces with Sony to implement VOIP through their virtual worlds.  The show wraps up with a thinly veiled discussion of, if the crew were mad MMO scientists what new additions would they bring to life -- which really translates into what they want in the next Everquest II expansion!

Hey Hey

Just wanted to say a few quick things about the crafting epic quest line. The main reward is an earing with a speed buff of 45% that can be used even if the earing is not on... Yea FREE mount. Besides an Earing, Cloak and new title it is also a very interesting quest line , WE LOVE YOU DOMINO!!!!!!!!!! and on a side note with GU43 the new crafting items are very cool and i am more excited about them then the new loot rules. BTW if any one is interested go to eq2trades site is great and is my crafting bible.

Really enjoy your guys show and BILL not sure witch is your email but let me be the first to give you a hearty hello o/. Would be great if you guys could go a little more into end game info and some of the very interesting quest that can get you really nice items and drag you into the wonder full story line in ROK.

For any new LvL 80's the first part of the EPIC quest line for the fabled reward is not to terribly difficult just do not be scared of PUGs and jumping into some hard contested zones, and read the quest if you jump to EQ2wiki you will miss half the fun ;>

Hey Good Question.

The two frogs on the EQual Perspective's logo is Spadefoot and Lillypad. Spadefoot is Joe's main, a 56th level wizard. Lillypad was my guardian that never really took off -- she is still around 20th level.

Today marks a very sad day in the world or RPGs, which I include MMOs to be a part of. Gary Gygax, the creator of Dungeons & Dragons passed away. He was 69 years old and was playing the game as late as last month, before illness took him from us.

In 1974 he co-wrote Dungeons & Dragons with Dave Arneson, and started a genre that would eventually evolve into modern day MMOs.

I met the man, one time, at a Gencon more than 10 years ago. I saw him walking around the show floor just looking at booths and chatting with all the players and spectators. I walked up to him and thanked him for making the game and changing the very fiber of my life.

Long Live The King!!!

The gaming world owes a lot to Mr Gygax. Perhaps not so much lore-wise as the whole idea of the mechanics of gaming. I bet that a lot of todays MMO gaming gaming math is losely based, or at least related to his work.

Wave hello to that big D12 in the sky for me, Gary! Cheers, and thanks for everything!

PS: Good show, peeps. Will you aver rant about bugs in-game? If you will, give me a call!

'Gary Even Invented the Idea Of Lore' by Shalimar616

Because games are often based on IPs both known and created for a specific project, the actual lore or history of the world is not the invention of Mr. Gygax. However, before Dungeons & Dragons, there was no concept of a game having a continuing story or that characters or players, for that matter, could actually change the context of the universe.

I vaguely remember playing the old Avalon Hill box games -- Starship Trooper or Squad Leader. both great games, but there was no lore to the game, no precedence for the next time you played -- they were simply a engagement of forces.

With the invention of the whole concept of Role-Playing, Gary, gave us the bindings and hooks for a continuing story; a developing story around our characters and the world they live in -- both past, present, and future.

So much can be said about all the things he added to the game world from statistics, to dice rolls, party constructs, dungeon play, character development.... The list can go on.

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to let everyone know that a new show has been recorded and that I am trying to edit the show together. I have been extremely lazy lately and really feeling the winter blues -- happily I saw the sun yesterday for the first time in ages, blue sky...and that bristly green stuff on the ground: I think they call that grass.

Anyway, my spirits are picking up and I am working hard to get a new show out.

I want to thank the entire EQual Perspective gang for being so patient; as well as our recent guests!
