Episode 4 Discussion Thread

'Good episode' by James

The skit that opened the show was great, as usual. Somehow I managed to jump right from MUDs in the late eighties (with lots of console gaming and single player computer RPGs in between) to GW and WoW, so I'd never heard of Meridian 59 prior to the show. The minigames you discussed, like the assassin's game, sounded like something that would work in a present day MMORPG really well and be a nice distraction from the usual level grinding and raiding that most folks become obsessed with. The guilds I've been in always try to organize fun contests and events. It's cool to hear that over 10 years ago, these sorts of things were actually in the game design.

As always you had me in stitches. Its pretty strange to see a guy staring at Gerber Babyfood jars laughing his arse off (thats my job) -- everyone around my cubical thinks I had gone nuts today.

The whole show was so interesting and brought back so many memories.

I remember during the days of Meridian, I told all my friends that the web was a passing fad. Yup, who would want to play games like that I thought. It wasnt until Everquest that I began to change my mind.

Keep up the great work, and have me back on the show again.

'What a great show!' by KevinC

I have really enjoyed listening to the show so far. It's very funny and the memories that come pouring back are terrific. As a PC gamer for 23 years now, and online for 14, I can relate to a lot of the things you guys talk about.

Let me know when you are doing a show on MUDs, Might and Magic (I heard that one was coming), Bard's Tale, etc. or on most any MMO. I would love to participate with you guys if only via voicemail or comments here.

Keep up the good work. This is definitely on my "must listen" list. :)

HAHAHA!! You just couldn't resist that last little 'BITD' could you? I half expected that one though and luckily the phrase repetition detector™ only reported 2 "back in the day's" this time. Good job.
Interesting podcast. I have never heard of Meridian 59 and it was interesting to see this game that passed me by completely. Well researched and well presented and the skits are really well done....(BLEEP BLEEP BLEEP)...DAMN IT!! I said well three times, stupid machine!!

Hehehe...Monstage, I'm glad you got a kick out that. I was crossing my fingers it would be taken as light-hearted fun and nothing more. One good thing, too, is a actually have my wife listen to my podcast and see if it sounds okay. She's quite a critic, and I think that's helped my speaking ability. :)

When I listened too your POD cast and you said it was going to be about Meridian 59 there were tears in my eyes. Meridian 59 was my first love for an MMO game and you never forget your first time. I played back on server 104 It was good times and I made some good friends from there. I would like too share some things about Meridian with you. Looking back now one of the funniest things I can reamber was getting married to my 2nd online wife down in the underground lake and getting PKED at her wedding.
Great show and I look forward too listening too the 2nd part

Hmmm well Im a 46 year old father and husband i got pulled into MMOs back when EQ1 released. My lil bro said hey you should really check out this new game. Well I wasnt to excited about paying a monthly fee but hey since my bro and I lived so far apart I though it would be a great way to hang with him. Well Im sure as with many of us I was hooked with no escape in sight.. lol Ive played just about every MMO out there to this date and Listening to your stories has me laughing and commenting "OH DAMN I remember that". Keep up the great work and I look forward to more from you. By the way, the skits in the beginning of your show are outstanding and very creative, very nice job
