And boy was it worth the wait!
Great show and great recounts of your experience.
I pulled up in to my clients carpark listening to the deathticles skit and burst out loud laughing. My client asked me what I was laughing at and I explained. He then went on to tell me how he used to play SWG and we had a long conversation about it which was great.
I really cannot wait for your fallout episodes.

It wasn't just dancers who could relieve battle fatigue, there was a musician class too. The musician class was cool because you could group with other musicians and increase the effectiveness of the benefit.
The crafting In SWG was great, and house building a decorating was really cool. There's really been nothing like since.
I left before the space expansion, but I can't remember why or what for. Good times though.

Star Wars was a huge influence on my childhood. SWG was the first MMO that I was really excited about. It didn't quite live up to my expectations, but I'm sure they were set too high. There is "A New Hope" with BioWare's Star Wars the Old Republic MMO. Unfortunately its release is a couple years away. If I could just go into a carbonite freeze until then...

SWG was my first MMO. I was blown away by the beauty of the graphics and the attention to detail in the sound.
Listening to your show brought back ALOT of memories.
However, I don't think they ever implemented the whole "owing a corvet" thing they showed in the video at fanfair that year. Not sure, it's been a while since I played.
You know, I have really mixed feelings about that game. On the one hand, the art assets and the motion capture and the sound were AMAZING. The coding to make it all work? Not so much. Sony did a piss poor job of implementing features and fixing bugs. Some people blame LA for ths but I have it on authority from the man at the head of Sony, J. Smed himself, that LA and SOE work together to triage bugs. Also remember Sony WROTE the code to begin with to introduce the sloppy bugs.
Early SWG is where Sony truly got their rep for doing shiate work.
Of course, Space is the exception, as you pointed out. Space was done amazingly well. The ship building mechanics were awesome, the flight mechanics were close to what X-Wing offred (as close as an MMO could probably get). Space was amazing. After, JTL I concentrated almost entirely on the space game.
Well anyway, thanks again Jonathan. I enjoyed my trip down memory lane.

Holy crap, man.
Good stuff. I love the fact that you are not constantly griping and whining like me. You make me feel good, without being like, you know, touchy feely.

I didn't care for it. Ok, correction. At first, I was all excited. You could even say I was in denile for the first 2 months I played it. In time, SWGs was as disappointing as Star Wars Episode 1. I felt like the devs were more interested in making an RPG that happened to have a Star Wars-esque tileset, and less interested in making a good Star Wars experience.
When the game was originally launched, 2 of the classes were the most laughable classes I've ever seen in MMORPG history. The justification of these 2 classes were born solely out of the silly way you needed 3 ways for your character to be healed. One was your normal health bar that regenerated in a very textbook RPG manner. The other 2 ways to be healed could only be done by these 2 silly classes. the Medic and the Entertainer. Could a medic heal the same damage that an entertainer could? no.
In order to have the mind damage healed, could you just watch NPC entertainers in the cantina, instead of the creepy spandex wearing dude character that chose a dancing skill? no.
Could the Medic come with you into combat at least and heal you efficiently? No.
The medic was stranded in the hospital, and the entertainer was stuck in the cantina or they lost bonuses.
Pay 15 dollars a month to make macros and leave my character in the city and go get a sandwich, FTW! no...
I don't care that I could teach my mount to sit up. Calamari wouldn't last 20 minutes on Tatooine. I was sick of shooting dirt mounds to make bugs come out. If I chose empire, it took a hundred hours of gameplay just to get a stormtrooper uniform which should have been n00b armor!
Oh and on that note; What was my armor class?!
We have hyperdrives on fighter craft, but I have to literally go out to my generator, grab armloads of power and dump them into the hopper of my harvester? Wow... didn't Luke have droids do that on a moisture farmer's meager budget?
It wasn't Star Wars, it was like... Ground Wars. I hated it.
Big elephant in the room... I hated SWG!
Basically it was a game that allowed you to do everything you could imagine doing in a game.... except PLAY IT!!!
It made for a fun graphical chat room though.
Jonathan, great podcast. funny sketches. keep 'em coming! :-D

I haven't heard skits this good since Joel was on MST3k. Really Funny.
Made me sad that I never played Galaxies.
