Oh My God Real Life Podcast #14
Sun, 27 Apr 2008 19:56:00 GMT [download/play]

On this 14th episode of Oh My God Real Life, the 5 Emails of Doom include:

- Professor Lockheart is an older gamer looking for people his own age to socialize with in and out of games. Can we help?
- "Friend" has a friend who is a lesbian, and her mom is furious! Or jealous?
- Frodo is back with another email, this time seeking follow-up advice on his love interest, and a little something about religion.
- Spart is sick of stupid girls. Can't he find a girl who is smart, plays Guild Wars AND looks like Adriana Lima? What? Why not?
- And for our final episode, it's one of my all-time favorites. Jenna is asked to take the Azeroth Challenge. Will she do it?!

If you'd like to contact us about a problem, write to show at omg-rl dot com.

The theme song for OMGRL is "Real Life Drama" by Rackjaw.

Episode 14 Discussion Thread

'A message in a bottle for Professor Lockheart. Oh and Hi Sean and Genna.' by willwoz

First of all I really, really, really had to spell you names wrong, just because they're right up at the top of the page, so please don't hate me.

Anyway, thanks for another great show Shawn and Jenna. I really only discovered you this a few days ago, but spent the long weekend catching up. Oh at the moment I have a broken ankle, so I have an excuse to spend three days listening to two of the sexiest voices on the net.

Anyway again, just a quick note for Professor Lockheart, he might like to check out http://www.theoldergamers.com/. I'm 35 and never had never really visited the site, but I recently discovered my sister (10yrs older) is absolutely addicted to it. I didn't even realise she gamed, but it’s great know we actually have something in common. Her being a stay at home suburban mum of 2 and me being city boy, not really in the game for kids.

Oh and BY THE WAY, don’t scare me by putting things like “And for our final episode†in the show notes.

Okay so for now, cheers from sunny (or not so sunny recently) Sydney. Oh that’s the Australian one; you may have noticed the spelling!

Later,
Will

In saying that I'm not saying 45 is old, and 35 is young. Oh why do I get myself into these thing....

Oh and one other then ’, “, and ’ mean ', ", " and ' respectively.

Neurotically yours,
Will

Yeah, I meant "final email" not episode. Kinda big typo there on my part. Sorry :)

That sure got a hiccup out of me! Thanks for the clarification, Shawn.

Professor Lockheart:
Gax is an idea. As awesome as the tech is at that site I must confess I fell that not much happens over there. Well... I guess I'm part of the problem, anyway.
Anyway, Prof could always drop me a tell over at Gax (same handle as here) if the good Prof would like to play with older Euro-based EQ2 players.

Friend/Batwoman:
Can't say I get the moms reaction here... we are what we are and doing what you want is the only law. And I agree that Secret Love is hardcore. I got the impression Jenna meant that it was possible to be tolerant with others being gay- bu t not if your kin is. WTF? It's when things get hard/close/going when tolerance (or any values) gets important!

Frodo:
Regarding the religion can only agree. Tolerance and respect is important here. At least agree to disagree. I have a friend who I consider pretty racist... I'm OK with that but I've also told him that if he behaves like that in front of my son I will kick his ass. There are lines.

And having a "girlfriend" on-line... That IS creepy. Unless you mean it like a friend - who happens to be a girl.

In closing:
Great show. I especially like all the witty (adult) jokes. And you really SHOULD sell some t-shirts. Perhaps the Massive Virgin Collective could sell them, or make some member t-shirt. Just a thought.

Ok I also am an old gamer - 39 (mostly old). I completely understand where Lockheart is coming from as I am in middle management and the rest of the staff are my age or olderand only their kids play games.

My wife is pretty patient about my gaming (GW mainly) and in the last year I discovered LAN's - the i-series (run by multiplay.co.uk). They are based in the UK (as am I) so i thought this would be relevant. There are four LANS per year with about 1-2000 attendees per time. Its a BYOC thing over various weekends - it took me about a year to get the bottle to go as I went on my own and was worried about being the "old git" but in this case it seems to have worked out.

I have been looking for something like this for awhile as none of my firends game except for those online. I actually got a renewed interest in GW because I left my old guild to join an over 30's only one (well actually a group of two alliances) which is really active (gwmara.org - to give them a pimp). I know your game is Eve but there wil probably be something like that there.

As this is sooo much later than the actual show you may not see this but hey.

Anyway love the show (as does my wife - yay). Thanks again.
