Oh My God Real Life Podcast #1
Tue, 31 Jul 2007 04:17:00 GMT [download/play]

In this premiere episode of the Oh My God Real Life podcast, your host Shawn takes us through his ideas for the future of this podcast and what it will be about.

"Real Life Issues for Gamers"; thats the mantra of the OMG-RL Podcast. But what all does this involve?

- Current news regarding anything connecting real world issues as they pertain to the ever-growing gamer community

- Advice given to listener email and voicemail sent to the show concerning real life issues

- MMO and Online game etiquette

- General rants about anything gaming related

Take note that this will also be an explicit podcast, so don't listen to this one in the minivan on the way to school in the morning.

'Welcome to OMG RL' by Brent

A big welcome to Shawn's new show. You know and love him as the host of the long running GuildCast and now he has another show to entertain and educate us on our gamer-ways.

For some reason yet to be determined, Shawn's podcasts play at Chipmunk speeds in the flash player above, but if you click the download/play link to the left it'll open in your favored player. (Darn flash players are always quirky.) The iTunes link will show up as soon as Apple get their stuff together.

Enjoy.

Well done, Shawn and somehow I don't mind the explicit nature of an adult podcast dealing with adult issues. It will be interesting to see how this matures.

You do have some issues with giving professional advice, of course, so a disclaimer might be in order somewhere, unless you have some kind of counselling qualification.

The whole issue of how MMOs wrap around people's RL lives is going to become an ever more significant issue over the next 20 years, so some frank discussion at these early stages could have some long-term benefit to society. Some scientific experts or at least access to the latest scientific data on MMO time spent, impact on the brain etc. would add credibility to your project.

Btw, Brent - can you change the login timeout on this site? i am forever having to remember what I typed, due to it going into the ether, if I have been logged out by the site.

Great Idea Shawn - but I did like the Chipmunk version via the Flash Player.
Sounded like you underwear was a little too tight.

Question: How do I stop my wife and kids taking my game time ?
Should I
1 - Lock the door to my office ?
2 - Run away ?
3 - Find them a new husband / dad for them ?
4 - Buy 5 copies of Guild Wars and WOW and make it a family thing ?
(not sure my 1 year old son can control a mouse yet)

;)

Good Luck with the show.

Can't wait for Episode 2

...this will be interesting.

/snark on

And yeah, I refuse to listen to this podcast unless you get certification and/or a doctorate degree. Shameful.

/snark off

Good luck Shawn...and if you ever want me on your show, let me know.

Sounds like this can be entertaining - always a good thing. Look forward to the next. Brent, I know you've commented on keeping your site accessible to the younger crowd - I think an easily-seen explicit designation would be appropriate.
