'huh?' by Milodacat Submitted on 2007-12-02 19:03:08 CST Hey, I've been a listener for quite awhile. Really enjoy virginworlds and I thank you for your mmo contributions. :)
I think you misunderstood about the Vanguard "instancing" thing. It's just for the new raid dungeon coming out this month APW (Ancient Port Warehouse). With the first raid content, it's gonna be a bit busy when it launches live, to say the least. It's a manually dev controlled "overflow" system, more akin to what EQ2 did with the overland zones like Antonica and Commonlands, where it would open a new copy when population got too much for the zone (antonica 1, Antonica 2, etc.)
Really, I'm pretty comfortable with this solution. The dev in charge of the new raid dungeon describes it here: http://forums.station.sony.com/vg/posts/list.m?&topic_id=22946
Anyway, enjoyed the show, as always :)
'Great Show!' by RadarX Submitted on 2007-12-03 13:12:08 CST I actually choked on my sandwich during your Massively Top 5 SciFi MMO's. I couldn't agree more, and I'm hoping not to see a list of the top 5 Pirate of MMO games coming soon.
'Thanks for the shout-out' by noahk17 Submitted on 2007-12-04 01:14:22 CST And for those of you wondering exactly what FFTrealm.com is, here's a quick overview to save you some time.
FFT Realm is basically the game Final Fantasy Tactics converted to PHP. You create a character (25+ classes), battle in the arena against other players and NPC monsters to gain experience and Gil (currency). You level up and buy items (over 1200 currently) to enhance your character. You can also partake in several different tradeskills to create your own items, potions, and weapons. There are user-run shops, mini-games (Gil Slots), a fully operational bank, a quest system, and a bunch more stuff I can't really put down right here.
We have a thriving community (300+ people active at any given time), and there is a bunch of discussion about a lot of things (some FFT related, others not). Come check it out if you want. We have a nice newbie area where you can ask questions or just introduce yourself, and there are always tons of people willing to help ya out in the game.
Thanks again Brent. Cheers!!
'Top 5 sci-fi MMOGs' by d1551d3nt Submitted on 2007-12-05 12:21:12 CST You completely echoed my sentiments regarding the Massively top five list for sci-fi MMOGs. I don't want to crucify anyone for actually taking the time to put together an article or come up with a lame top five list but what the hell was the point? In any case I'm looking forward to the follow-up which should be Top One List of Superhero MMOGs. I bet we all know what the first and last game will be!
'SciFi MMOs' by scytale2 Submitted on 2007-12-05 14:26:59 CST Well, interestingly, aside from the "I like watching paint dry" EVE On-line, the other MMOs on the list were/are all extremely good.
SWG and AO are still good after many years and I still check them out once in a while. Earth and Beyond was one of my all time favourite MMOs and it certainly did not deserve to vanish - I'd love to see it come back in as an enhancement to the "I like watching paint dry" Jumpgate, which seems to have little to recommend it, other than it appeals to the same people that played Elite and Eve.
It's always interesting to see that the most banal games are the ones that have the most players. The creative and interesting ones struggle to find their feet, but usually buddle on with a core of dedicated players.
'5 more!' by ktin Submitted on 2007-12-07 02:01:38 CST 5 more episodes until a new intro theme!
