'A Cure For What Ails Me' by James Submitted on 2007-10-22 22:15:21 CST Just as the doldrums of the 2007 gaming year (or lack thereof) have really been sinking in with me, what should I see before I call it a night but VirginWorlds Podcast #90. I don't know if its been an exceptionally slow week at work (giving me too much time to goof off online) or an exceptionally non-newsworthy week in the gaming world, but I feel like things have been too quiet on the MMORPG front this past week. Glad I have an hour plus of MMORPG goodness to feast my ears on tonight! Woo hoo!
'What?!' by Kami Submitted on 2007-10-23 10:58:08 CST What, no CoMutiny love!? :P I kid, i know we suck ^^ Although thanks, i have a whole bunch of non game related podcasts to listen to now! I'm really looking forward to going through some Guerrilla Radioshow at some point
'Just me?' by Fraeon Submitted on 2007-10-23 16:01:43 CST Was Brent being more sarcastic than usual with this podcast? I almost spat my coffee out when Brent was doing his corporate PR guy impression. Funny stuff.
Going to check In Our Time. Hadn't heard of it before, but it seems... interesting. So many podcasts, so little time.
'long one' by hallower Submitted on 2007-10-23 16:15:21 CST Most of the stuff I could say, I've said somewhere before. But here are some random thoughts.
Release dates more than a couple months out are meaningless. Cheyenne has no idea when they'll be releasing Stargate, regardless of what they say.
Metaplace: This is one of the companies that had to evacuate because of the California fires. Let's pray they don't lose the building.
CCP: It's good to see another developer located in the South. Hopefully, the industry will spread out more in the coming years. The Midwest could use more development companies, too. Different regions have different cultures, and entertainment tends to reflect the culture it comes from. I'm glad to see Europe's game industry spreading out more as well, particularly in Eastern Europe.
I don't know anything about World of Darkness yet, but I plan on reading up on it.
Grammar Girl seems interesting. I'd be a good technical writer if I didn't break a lot of grammar rules on purpose (because they don't make sense). Not ending a sentence with a period, for example, seems foolish to me; but that's what people expect you to do if you end with a quote.
Guerrilla Radioshow looks cool. I love philosophy, though philosophical discussion usually end with one or both parties feeling frustrated.
Really trying to pimp GAX, aren't you? ;) I've had it bookmarked forever, but it gets lost in the fifty or so other bookmarks I've got. Eventually, I'll really give it a hard look.
'Actually...' by darrenl Submitted on 2007-10-23 16:45:28 CST Brent's impersonation of CEOs was spot on....they actually do talk like that. It's weird at first because you're looking for the "echo machine", but you soon realize that there is none.
'Worth the wait, and the bugs' by Kylvan Submitted on 2007-10-23 20:20:36 CST Great job on the extended and sometimes buggy podcast #90. It was worth it, even with a slightly degraded audio at times. My only complaint is that my podcast queue has grown even longer.
'This Week In Tech AAC' by Shalimar616 Submitted on 2007-10-23 21:24:43 CST The specific title of the Leo Leporte show that I listen to is; This Week in Tech AAC Edition. Leo is my hero!! So, too, is John C Devorak.
'School Girls?' by Jossfan Submitted on 2007-10-24 13:27:59 CST Thank you, guys. This is a well timed podcast for me. Since Tony Kornheiser is off the radio until at least February, I'm really short on stuff to listen to during the work day. Now I've got a bunch of possibilities to explore.
Am I the only one who wonders how Troy got be an expert on how twelve year old school girls talk? ;) And I am probably the only one who'd actually like to hear a podcast by twelve year old school girls . . . at least once.
Of all of these suggestions, the only one I can vouch for is "In Our Time." If you break away from the iTunes and go to the site, you can get to the archived episodes which is just an embarassment of riches. And it is also funny (not to say frustrating) how cavalier the BBC is about the files they save. If you hit the link and find yourself listening to 3 minutes of broadway tunes, just hang on. The show you actually want to hear is on the way; they're just not very precise about the edit.
'Vanguard Move to SOE HQ' by Mordith Submitted on 2007-10-25 13:23:36 CST Not a big deal, but you mentioned that the move from Carlsbad to the SOE San Diego office was about 2 hours. The drive is really about 20 to 30 minutes.
Other than that, great podcast as usual. Keep it up!
'fine...' by brackishwater Submitted on 2007-10-30 19:31:49 CST Okay fine, you make me finally break down and dowload itunes....
I have been doing my best to avoid having to use it but its time I guess. There are just too many damn shows out there that I am missing. Cool wrapup and I like the fact that you guys did the personal top 5 rather than the gaming top 5.
20 next time?
'Philosophize.... this!' by hughnme Submitted on 2007-11-17 17:07:34 CST This was a great podcast; I too liked how you chose your personal top five.
I’ve listened and subscribed to a couple of the podcasts (In our time and Guerrilla Radio)
Who’d of thunk it? I’m finding a burgeoning interest in Philosophy.
@ Brendan
I wondered too why they called themselves “Guerrilla” radio so I asked them.
Gill man got back to me and said
“I suppose we chose the name to emphasize the independent, underground, against the grain sort of vibe that we were aiming for with respect to the show. I’m not sure how successful we have been in living up to those characterizations, but I think that was the motivation in choosing the name at least.”
