'delayed' by Brent Submitted on 2007-06-19 02:33:47 CST Sorry for the brief delay in releasing this. I got caught up in code and upgrading these pages instead of editing 73. Man, my priorities are out of whack, eh?
:)
Enjoy.
'Err....is it fubared?' by Floss Submitted on 2007-06-19 07:20:47 CST Brent, I've tried to download with both Firefox and IE7 to no avail. The client just locks up when I click on the download link.
Anyone else having problems?
'Apologies Brent......duh was my end' by Floss Submitted on 2007-06-19 08:23:39 CST Sorry about that, twas my PC that was fubared. Downloaded on another PC and rebooted my own PC. Hey presto it works now!
Dived into the podcast straight away, excellent as usual with the dynamic duo on the scene.
'Sword of the new World' by Burro Submitted on 2007-06-19 11:00:08 CST I'm glad they ripped off RF onlines weapon upgrade style (maybe RF online ripped it off too who knows). I always found that weapon upgrade style interesting but didn't want to play RF online bad enough to reach the point where I could experiment with that.
'SONW etc.' by scytale2 Submitted on 2007-06-19 15:51:06 CST I had a quick go at SONW, Alvin and I can't agree that it has much of a chance. Itt was badly laggy, totally confusing, hard to control and yes virtually impossible to understand what was going on, assuming it was written in English. Clearly it's in Beta, but it's barely an improvement on RF On-line and feels exactly the same to me. The annoying thing is, if they got rid of the huge numbers, the rolling loot and gave the game a bit of a story, rather than just grindfest, then the production values are there. Problem is, just like most of the industry, they are too focused on what is already in existence. The New World element of it makes no sense at all.
Re- Vanguard server merge, it's worth menting that Vanguard's world is probably around 10 times the size of LOTRO and 5x WoW (pure guesstimates). There are far more starter areas than any other game in existence, so one would expect that 2 Vanguard servers would be equivalent to about 5 of another game....
Gah - different cultures, eh...what in the world is funny about that Bud Light ad? Wow, how clever of them to use expletives to sell beer - is this not simply encouraging bad manners amongst young people? Pathetic is all I can say...no wonder you hear little 8 year-old kids swearing walking along the street now...
Anyway, enjoyable listen, wie ûblich...
'Another Corker' by Dathmar Submitted on 2007-06-22 05:00:02 CST Great show peeps....as always.
Liked the review...although it does sound like the game is a little grindy and after playing about 3 Korean MMOs - I have been scared for life...shame I'll probably miss a real good one one day.
As to your comments on LOTRO - I cannot agree more - the classes are mainly quite dull (even though they are all "new" types of classes) to MMOs
I have just started playing Vanguard and although the game still runs like poo on my machine (from Beta) its the first game for me since WOW that I (my character )feels (just a little bit) special
Also ever 2 levels when I get my new skill / spell I am excited, where as in LOTRO I see my new skill and think....mmm - how dull.
Perhaps it get better the more you play ?
Also the UI in LOTRO really annoys me - I am not sure why more people don't comment on this -
Its like you are playing with a .5 second delay to your actions all the time.
I press a skill button (via keyboard or mouse) and .5 seconds later the character does the action.
Which is really annoying as some of the deeds are dependant of using a skill as a killing blow...which I seem to miss a lot of the time.
None of the other MMOs I have played have this delay...perhaps its something that meant to be there ?
'Caught up...' by Wilhelm2451 Submitted on 2007-06-26 00:11:43 CST I was a couple weeks behind in podcasts, but caught up this weekend. So when are we getting VW forums?
