Just like it's nice when you and Brenden get together to rant about stuff, it's doubly nice when it's you two and guys from MOG. I agree that your (collective) podcasts were the best thing to happen to MMOs this year, especially for me. I never got around to joining a multi-MMO guild, so I never really had any feeling of being a part of the MMO-community, even though I knew it existed, and this brought me a piece of that.

So, may 2007 bare sweeter fruit than it's predecessor, and may your listenership grow a few more digits!

This show was extremely entertaining. I loved it. MOG and Virgin Worlds are my two favorite podcasts, so what could be better for me?! Great job!! ^.^

Very enjoyable show. While I don't think you should give up on the regular format, it is very nice to mix up with these collective podcasts.

A few comments on content:

Korean/eastern games - I think that the format of these games work better there because of the setting in which it is often played. When I was in South Korea a few months ago I used to go to the 'PC bang' places to do email etc. A PC bang (roughly PC room) is basically an internet/gaming cafe and you find these places everywhere - just as easy to find as a pub in London. It is a place where a number of people hang out playing games and in that context I think just some fighting/grinding works out better - people are just there hanging out with their friends and having a good time.
That is not to say that more storyline/quest/mission-oriented games would have problems, they would probably work also. But what is being played is determined by what is available on the computers there, the only "western" game I saw there was WoW in terms of MMOs. And without putting too much effort on the story part, you can probably produce the games cheaper.

Given that they have multiple TV channels for computer games, similar to sports channels and that you can see Starcraft tournaments every single day on TV I think Blizzard have a pretty good position there. Ads in TV and other places will likely affect what people get into as well.

Of course I might be totally off here, a short vacation to Korea does not provide eastern gaming expertise ;)

To be honest, there were a few things of interest being said, but the expletives were just overpowering, so I had to switch it off.

Sorry, Brent, but I don't think this stuff should come out under your name, as it degrades the professionalism of your product.

You suggest it is for an 18+ audience, but frankly it seemed more targeted at the under 18's in its tone, if not the content.

Shame all these intelligent guys can't speak in a civil way. MOGArmy seems to be the Cable TV version, whereas VirginWorlds is the BBC. To think that MOGArmy are trying to make money out of their podcast....I can't see any advertisers queuing up to associate with the programme, with this irresponsible tone.

Anyway, that's my opinion. Maybe it's my age or something, but I don't like being continually shouted at and swear words are used to swear, not simply to pass the time of day....

Podcast deleted. I look forward to a new one to get rid of the bad taste - when is #47?

You know I love you and all, Brent... but I hated this episode. You and Brenden seemed so uncomfortable, and rightly so.

I understand there's a niche for these types of podcast personalities, and there's nothing wrong with that, but I personally find it annoying and not compatible with your style at all. They were trying WAY too hard to be funny, and failing miserably. I think there's a wacky morning zoo out there somewhere missing their shock jocks.

Anyway, I'll stop there because you guys are all friends or something, but I'm just being honest :)

I listen to both podcasts. Both are great for what they are. I will also say that there were some moments during the podcasts where I laughed very hard, and a few moments that got me thinking about MMOs. I have to agree with some posts that say this wasn't exactly the chocolate and peanut butter phenomenon we might have all hoped for.

On a side note. I am wondering if I am the "enter zen" person that Ryan has mentioned a few times. Unfortunately, I have had trouble registering on their new forums and I can't find an email address to contact them. I have been known to use the term, "sandbox." : )

BTW, I thought the #45 holiday show was a class act.

Yeah, I going to have to agree with some of the other guys. It seemed that there was too much MOG and not enough of Brent/Brenden to balance it out. Honestly, even the MOG guys really didn't seem like themselves. They really were pushing the funny button a bit too hard. To much of the drinkie drinkie maybe.

Love your show Brent...love the MOG show, but something was missing. Give it another go with another podcast in the future, I know there is something there...you just need to find it.

Anyway, just thought I'd give some feedback which I know you appreciate.

D out.

Just finished listening to the show
I enjoyed it....but personally not as much as your normal format with you and Brenden.
For me I think it was that many topics of discussion didn't get "finished" or sometimes even started....but this is probably to be expected with the lads from MOG Army.
;)
Also (Brent and Brenden) don't go out with Ryan for a drink at GDC - You'll both end up with your mug shots on TV ....remember the Nick Nolte Mug Shot.....you don't want to go there..do you...?
;)
Thanks for the show.

While it was a good show, and I laughed out loud quite a bit in the car, it was definitely a MOG podcast with Brent and Brenden as special guests, and not a VirginWorlds podcast. Despite your heavy metal roots Brent, I think we see you more on the NPR end of the spectrum. (And I mean that in the sense of professionalism, not the way that reviewer on iTunes meant it.)

Now, will we get to see a MOG vs. VW cage match in SF come March over the term "Sandbox?"

If Brent went out drinking with those two, I more or less see him waking up in a tub of cold water with his kidneys missing.

...and I've said all I can say about Sandbox..Brent is just wrong wrong wrong :) ...but I admire his tenacity.

I cannot believe my ears! A sandbox is a very real concept and it is indeed the future, if developers will realize it. As time goes on, I have an increasingly hard time playing games without a sandbox element. They are just too confining with no concrete sense of accomplishment.

Why go on some fake feeling quest when you can make your own goals. World politics, empires rising and falling, real battles all stem from the freedom from artificial game-mechanics. tsk tsk tsk.

If i'm not mistaken (and I'm not) Brent warned you at the top of his show what you were going to hear... and I think his discription of the content was accurate...

You don't like over the top comedy with your commentary... don't listen to MOG... we don't want you to...

This was an experiment... (one that i came up with BTW :P ) i wanted to see what would happen if the top 4 personalities in general MMO Podcasting got together and shot the shit... was it bumpy... of course... GnR are not used to working with others and BnB are not used to the of the cuff lunacy that can happen on a MOG show. At the end of the day however i think the show you heard was one of the most intelligent and entertaining shows from both these podcasts... I know i was super happy with the results...

So to all the haters... guess you'll be missing out on one Podcast a year... because I think the MOG/VW year-ender is going to become a tradition...

I want to see the "sandbox" takedown on video if I cannot get up there in person for it!

Actually I am Ender-Xien

Before the MOGARMY site was redesigned I went by Ender_xien but on the new boards its just Ender... but perhaps he will talk about you one day too Zentr :)

I really like the Yin/Yang Alpha/Omega feel of the episode. Ryan gets a little crazy when he is drinking but its all in good fun. I am glad you stuck to your guns Brent because we all respect you for that and many of us agree with alot of what you say. Keep up the good work. You guys all have really great shows that compliment each other very well.

To the guy wondering how Gary or Ryan can get sponsors using expletives like they do... Ever heard of a Shock Jock known as Howard Stern? He is probably the richest radio personallity in existance... don't think the swearing or "shock" is going to hurt those 2.

After a good reflection, I think it was a pretty good show.

I do agree that it lacked some spanking of Ryan... he kinda of goes in his own "world bubble". I think that's why most ppl

“At the end of the day however I think the show you heard was one of the most intelligent and entertaining shows from both these podcasts”.

Bollocks

The B/B stuff was good as always, I couldn’t care less about the language, it was some of the concepts one of the maniac mog’s were going on about that I thought were just plain dumb, if I want to listen to drunken nonsense,I’l go down to the local.
I think once a year is quite enough mogarmy for me.

'I understand' by Brent
Submitted on 2007-01-08 19:16:48 CST
Like I said in show 47, I expected this polarized response and take no offense at anyone's comments that they didn't like the show. That's fine. No worries.

Personally, I had fun doing it and I think it has some comic genius and some solid discussion too. I wouldn't want to do a show like that on a regular basis of course, it just isn't me, but I like and respect the guys from MOG for having a talent I largely do not have, and I expect we'll do that again next year, if not sooner.

I am a little surprised at Gary and Ryan's reaction (yeah I'm talking to you guys) on their show (47), since they did go after some of the "haters". A trip over to MOG board will show a similar (but opposite) reaction there. Fans of both shows loved it all, meanwhile, MOG-only fans pretty much think Brenden and I are lame. That's ok. That is why they are MOG-fans.... VW doesn't appeal to them. I understand that, and likewise I understand it in the other direction.

In the end, I'm not criticizing people for liking or hating it, I'm just happy everyone spoke their minds and will continue to enjoy the content they prefer whether that is MOG, VW, or both.

I very much like the idea of these infrequent "combined podcasts", but you choose your partners carefully, so they don't tarnish your reputation.

The future prospects of VW must take precedence over a friendship with some people who couldn't care a fig about who they upset or annoy, for the entertainment of their niche market.

My apologies for caring about your programme and its future potential:)

Scy ... seriously... doing a show with the Mogarmy guys does not "tarnish (his) Reputation". Nor does it damage "the future prospects of VW". And if Brent were the type of guy who would avoid appearing with his friends to ensure "future prospects" for his podcast (which like all podcasts probably makes little money and is by and large a labor of love) then I for one certainly wouldnt have the respect for him I do.

I totaly understand that some people dont approve of the language the MOG guys use. I likewise understand that some people just dont find them entertaining. I for one love their show and listen to every one. It is all a matter of taste. But ... and here is the catch... noone has to listen to any particular episode. If you dont like the MOG guys... dont listen to their show or the VW year end special. Its that simple.
