Welcome back!
I would like to give my thumbsup to the idea of going prognostic on the upcoming (?) shows. IMO it's your biggest strength. Glad to hear that you might edit less. Not that I like ums and ahs, I'm an audiophile so I really liked the great sound of the "old" shows. It's just that I think editing is workload, and you might do more shows if the workload is less.
I know it don't mean much, but I'm sad to hear about the family problems.

Brent returns to reclaim his ancient realm!
Welcome back :-)
As for where to take the podcast; IMO you're at your best commenting on developments in the MMO world. Sometimes that will be news headlines, sometimes comments on upcoming MMOs, sometimes thoughts on mistakes and lost opportunities in old MMOs. Go where the Force takes you.

Now that's the Monday morning I've been missing! This morning's 1-hour commute seemed to go by a lot faster with VW on the radio again. Plus I get to finish it on my way home tonight.
When you mentioned Massively and Van Hemlock doing a good job at what the VirginWorlds podcast used to do, that's true, but it was still nice to hear the news with your delivery. And Darren makes an excellent Ed McMahon :)
Sorry to hear about the personal life. It was obvious something was going on, so it's good to finally know what it was. That didn't keep me from hitting VW a few times a day for my updates.
Glad to hear you're back and can't wait to see which direction you go with this...

WB
Your feedback over the years may say different, but I think you have the whole fear of show content straying too far from news blown way out of proportion. You used to do many different things on your shows, like reviewing other podcasts, interviews, playing submissions such as game reviews, mmo noob (wife), chatting with Brendan, other people hosted shows sometimes. All these things you did with an air of professionalism that made your opinions worth listening to.
You want to know why you should not feel ashamed doing some news occasionally? Because Massively speaking rarely has Brennan on the show, and she's the only one that understands that a podcast is meant to f***ing entertain and not smile me to death. Also, Jon flying through the headlines at 1000000 miles per hour while Tim doesn't have a clue what's going on.....

First off, Welcome Back! I really hope you stick with it.
Secondly, i'm not done with the show yet, so I don't know if you figured it out, but Lodizal (Lodi) is the turtle that you speak of. =p

Was listening to the first Gamebreakr a while ago and thinking how cool it was to hear Gary back podcasting again but I did think that if only Virginworlds would return, then podcasting karma would be restored to the world. Lo and behold, here it is.
Dont stress about changing the show format. Maybe try a bunch of different things, get feedback on what people liked and what they didnt but its your show, do what you enjoy.
i can only speak for myself as a long time listener of your show but it seems to me that its you that is worried about changing the direction of the show because it is your baby, I think the listeners will be happy to listen, whatever direction you decide to go.
Divorce sucks but life moves on. Welcome back!

For podcasts addicts like myself this was a very welcome surprise.
I agree entirely with Graham above me. You have a knack for this. Whatever you do will be popular. With smart decisions and hard work, you made VW THE place to go for MMO podcasts. It's been a while but I'm sure you still have the skills.

Glad you're maybe kinda sorta coming back. When I saw the logo in the podcast list, I was like WTF? Woot! There are so few podcasts I listen now, yours being added back would be fabulous. I know first hand that editing can take even longer than recording shows. I'd be all for having a VW show that it is unedited versus nothing at all.
Sorry to hear about the divorce especially since it felt left field. Been there and it was first guess as to what can possibly and immediately send someone's life careening. You sound great. Hope you're feeling at least half as good as you sounded.
Hoping you're really back on some level,
Saylah

Hey, Brent. Welcome back to Podcasting. I'll admit right up front that I started listening to gaming podcasts right around the time you were going "on break," so I never really listened to VWP. I hope everyone keeps that in mind and refrains from throwing tomatoes at my following format suggestion if it seems way out of line for your show.
I agree whole-heartedly that between Van Hemlock, Massively and many other podcasts that the news is fairly well covered, so another news show might be redundant. However, your idea of "borrowing" ideas from other podcasts in the Virgin Worlds Collective gave me a thought. Why don't you actually borrow material from the other shows. This would require the permission from the other podcasters, but what if you did a "Podcast Soup" style show of the best moments from the other VW podcasts - give an intro, play the clip, end with your comments. I think this may meet a couple of your needs, specifically time and editing. You can produce a regular length podcast, but your actual recording time would only be a fraction of that. And having pre-edited segments helps with your desire to do less editing.
Just a thought. Whatever you do will be great.

Thanks for coming back. I was disappointed when you stopped the show. I am really happy to hear from you again, even if there are some other news shows too. I hope you stay. :)

The new format, no editing would be awesome. Its been a few months, but how about once a month, every other week.... Any would be great. Hell only do a ten minute podcast! Good to see you back! Keep it up!
