'Missed SOE Drama' by Belo Submitted on 2008-03-23 23:21:38 CST What about the drama surrounding the latest MxO cutbacks? All five of us MxO subscribers are super pissed. ;)
'MXO?' by Brent Submitted on 2008-03-24 00:31:06 CST Aww, I did miss that.
K, who are the other three subscribers.
We got you and me here....
(I like MXO - didn't see the news on that though.)
'Me too!' by Beauturkey Submitted on 2008-03-24 09:58:46 CST I have had it with my Station Access for a bit, but started playing some more. I actually really like the combat system. It's something different.
I was going to talk about it a little bit too, over the next few weeks. I'll be spending time in all the other games on the Station Pass.
I actually met some players in game the other day, and watched them fight some Smiths (holiday event?) and I'll tell ya, it was cool to watch. They also helped me figure some stuff out.
'Still love MxO but . . . . ' by Jossfan Submitted on 2008-03-24 13:18:09 CST Beau, you're on the right track by talking to the other players. The game is better than when it launched, but you will save yourself a lot of frustration, particularly with the crafting, by asking questions.
I don't know if I still count as an MxO player. It is still on my hard drive, but I've only logged in twice since June. I had a griefing issue that could have happened in any MMO, but it happened in MxO and sort of chased me off.
It's a shame because I was in the MxO beta and my 42nd level Kungfu Duelist Crafter (who can also be a submachine gunner, a sniper, a doctor, and a pet wrangler) remains the highest level character I've achieved in any MMO.
Besides the combat, which is still unique three years later, the best thing about MxO is the two person emotes. I don't know why no other game has done it, but I always enjoying being able to "actually" shake someone's hand when you meet them. Then being able to hug them when you got to know them better. It's just "righter" than all the text emoting that people have to resort to in other MMOs.
'In a bind' by Belo Submitted on 2008-03-24 13:38:51 CST It's a tough situation - I love many aspects of the game and I think if it were in the hands of any other company (NCsoft?) I'd expect that it would have been shut down already. However you then have to wonder why SOE even bothers with it when all they seem to do is neglect the game. As time goes on my $15 buys me less and less it seems. Although I still won't devot any part of my life to being a SOE hater, I'll just end it with saying; MxO could have been better.
-Smiths are for 3rd year anniversary event btw.
'Regarding Shadowbane restarts' by animagnum Submitted on 2008-03-24 13:45:22 CST Hey Brent, I see what you are saying about keeping MMOs and virtual worlds persistent and how doing something like wiping the characters can be a problem (obviously), but on the other hand, I know some people who play Shadowbane and they are generally very excited about this new update. It is bringing players back and making some changes that the game needed. I hope restarts like this are not a trend with MMOs in the years to come, but from what I gather about Shadowbane this seems like a good way to give the game a second chance. It has to put the developers in a rough situation as I imagine it is not a decision they make lightly.
'Shadowbane, The Agency' by hallower Submitted on 2008-03-24 19:35:51 CST I'm sure plenty of Shadowbane players are pissed off, and many will leave the game over the reboot. But many will stay, often because of the guilds and social ties they've formed over that specific game, and some because of fresh hopes.
I'm going to download the free trial shortly after they reboot. I'm curious how the game has changed since I played it when it first came out (I think it was my second MMO experience), and there were elements of the game that were awesome (such as the runestone trait system in character creation).
Setting operatives to work on some new tech or surveillance in The Agency sounds great, but it also sounds like something that will annoy gamers with a lot of time to play. If you set an operative to build something over the space of a week, then that week of anticipation is technically the same whether you put a lot of time or a little into the game. But if you play the game for hours every day that week, the wait is going to feel much longer than if you only played a couple times per week.
If I were still planning on attending IMGDC, I'd buy you a beer to celebrate the 2 years. The fates conspired to keep me from certain death (snow) this year, but some other time. In the meantime, I'm sure Craig would be happy to pick up your tab for me. ;)
Seriously, I wish I could come. Enjoy yourself.
