This game has launched today. Here is what the press release said:
"The Saga begins... From now on it's a persistent world. With over 1000 online quests at launch, SAGA boasts many of the features that made MMOs successful: auction house, guilds, raiding, looted treasure, gear upgrades, collaborative party questing... Combined with the RTS features of city-building, resource management and grand-scale massive warfare, SAGA has changed the landscape of RTS gaming."
I saw this game about a year ago in beta and it seemed to have promise. The trailer does a nice job of making it look like a ton of fun. Check it out:
Comments: 'Welcome to the First 'Real' MMORTS' by Psyik Submitted on 2008-03-06 15:23:16 CST By that they mean like... Not counting 10six/Project Visitor, which was an MMORTS/FPS that came out in 2000 under SEGA.
Sorry. They've been touting this "first" banner too hard for me not to point this out. Still, second ain't bad. And it does look pretty cool. Going to go sign up and see how far I can get before I need to buy a booster pack.
'well - first COLLECTABLE MMORTS maybe' by Vimes Submitted on 2008-03-14 14:51:04 CST I will concede that they are the first collectable MMORTS, given the trading/booster card deal they are using for a subscription model. Mankind was the first MMORTS proper, followed by Shattered Galaxy (more MMORTT), Ballerium, Boundless Planet, Time of Defiance and Dreamlords. Many are in development now - with Dreamlords being resubmitted with new design and Beyond Protocol(which can be described as Mankind 3.0 with knobs on).
There are more released and in beta/alpha but I wont bore you here :)
