Yay.
I'll be at SOE Fan Faire and the SOE Community Summit for the next few days and if you're there please flag me down and say 'hi'. Apparently Brenlo has also set up a podcaster panel on which I'll sit. I'm not sure what we'll be talking about, but we'll entertain ourselves easily enough.
AND.
The idea Michael from MMOGNation.com and I brewed up over dinner at GDC has become a reality at AGC. We'll be holding a panel about the relationships between studios, publishers and alternative media. WTF is alternative media? It's us. The bloggers, the podcasters, the forum trolls, the comment writers, the... enthusiasts. This means that if you're planning to be at GDC Austin this fall, you'll get to come to the panel and make fun of me if you want. Or if you're so inclined you can cheer wildly and start a wave. That would be fine too. Here's the summary of the GDC Austin panel:Presentation Description:
A blended panel of industry and independent bloggers and podcasters will discuss the pros and cons of interfacing with alternative gaming press. Are independent blogs and podcasts a threat to the aims of game studios and publishers or can they represent a valuable channel for community building and information dissemination? Also, what value do studio-operated blogs and podcasts provide in terms of community building and product marketing? Are corporate blogs and podcasts able to break through to audiences without compromising the traditionally anti-commerce format of blogs and podcast and consequently drawing ire from the gaming audience?
Intended Audience and Prerequisites:
Community managers, bloggers, podcasters and anyone interested in the increasingly blurry line between public relations, traditional media and alternative media.
What is the idea takeaway from this presentation:
The panel aims to identify common ground between the objectives of alternative media and the community-building needs of studios and publishers.
Hope to be meeting some of you face to face very soon.
- Brent
