'Wrong perspective' by scytale2

I found myself listening to this interview becoming increasingly irritated with Magnus and a little cheesed off with Brent for not taking him to task...
"We want players to do...." , "I don't like it when players...", "This will attract more female players, as we have only 5%.."
I had imagined that the spirit of EVE On-line was to produce a platform in which players dictate what happens. Ok, there is very little you can actually do in EVE, bar chatting, mining, trading and PvP, but the game itself has been successful due only to its inventive and 95% male players.
It has taken forever for EVE to do anything other than what they started with and even that has been delayed and is "walking on space stations" the best they can do in several years of existence? Is there not something better than revamped ship models that they could spend $2m on? Maybe a bit of functionality or creative gameplay.
Magnus said that he didn't want the game to turn into a FPS. Well, maybe his players do want this? In fact I can't imagine that they wouldn't want this functionality. Perhaps some away missions on a planet, perhaps? Or do we have to wait for Star Trek On-line for that?
Seems to me that they are cashing in on the expertise of their players and running with the money, as opposed to providing what the players want.
The world is crying out for another game in a similar vein to compete with EVE. Maybe this will blast them out of their rather bland existence and get them to put on some creative thinking caps on and invest rather than milk.

Thanks for this Brent..
Good that you are getting these interviews...very impressed.
Not that I really play EVE - Tried it a couple of times and found it very lonely.
In Space no one can hear you cry "I am so lonely"
;)
but it sounds like some good ideas - the Corp Meeting in a spacestation with Voice Chat sounds cool - so many RP ideas there.
Sorry off topic (again)
Any chance of getting the latest from Simutronics ?
I hear they are at GDC (West Hall #144.)
Ask for Todd - Tell him Guy sent you
(Sorry last bit was an un-funny joke)

I am in the same boat as Dathmar. I tried it a couple of times but it did not come through for me. I do like the new features they are bringing to the game though. I do agree that with the Star Trek approach would bring a lot more players to the game. I would not like my player to be confined to a ship or a space station. Anyways, good interview.
Cheers,
