Comments: 'MXO...' by Kami Submitted on 2007-02-20 05:25:51 CST That video was pretty cool, i loved the use of the song Pompeii by E.S. Posthumus. its one of my favourite pieces ever :) .
The game its self. Well, the players i gravitate around tell me that this game is terrible, like wrist slashingly terrible. However, i refuse to believe that a game can be that bad when the only reason cited is "It just sucks"
I'm gonna try the trial out soon, to talk about it on CoMutiny (shameless selfplug ftw :D) Brent, or anyone else if your trying it out or PLAY it currently, let me know! email me at Comutiny@gmail.com ! also thats the address to send mails to if you wanna be on the podcast :D
'who here has played it?' by Brent Submitted on 2007-02-20 10:19:37 CST I'd love to see some first hand comments on this game. I will be taking a look at it. When i first saw that it was going to be released I was excited, and then it released quietly and got bad reviews so I never tried it. Does it even deserve a look? I'm thinking it does.
'I have' by darrenl Submitted on 2007-02-20 10:37:29 CST ...I played it when it was in Beta just before it came out and it really didn't leave a good impression with me.
They've probably put in a bunch of changes since then though...so it may be worth revisiting.
Why the sudden interest in MXO Brent? What did the Sony devs tell you about the game that perked your interest?
'I Tried It' by Wilhelm2451 Submitted on 2007-02-20 11:05:46 CST I played it around Christmas thanks to the installer & key that came with Massive #1. While I am working on a write up (so many topics on my to do list) I will say that nothing about the game was awful, but a lot of things were so bland or confusing that it just sort of snowballed into "it sucks" after a few hours of play.
'Played for 1.5 years' by QforQ Submitted on 2007-02-20 12:46:56 CST I played MxO from it's launch all the way up to August 2006, even being involved with it's LESIG team for close to a year.
The game isn't too bad, the main thing that is a drag about the game is the lack of development staff backing the game. SOE has stripped down the staff to a barebones group that is just enough to keep it going. The amount of new features and new updates is very very very low, especially in comparison to other MMO's.
The game cripples itself since it was very poorly designed from it's start. The team that made the game were newbies to making MMO's so they didnt make the game very flexible or easy to work with at all. Because of this, many features or ideas simply cannot be done because the game engine/design cannot allow it.
The evolving storyline of the game is pretty exciting and I think that it's the game's best feature. There are daily "live events" where a developer plays a storyline character for an hour a day(week days) and tries to push along the storyline.
Gameplay wise, it's alright. Fighting is pretty good but it can get pretty repeatative after a while, and there isn't a whole lot to do in the game. The game's mission system(quest system) is VERY VERY repeatative and very boring at the same time. Sadly this is the game's only method for content delivery, so the game has very little to offer after that.
As a very long playing, dedicated fan of the game. I'd recommend trying it out and joining the Syntax or Recursion servers, but I can't promise much in terms of fun. Mostly it's fun if you try to make a lot of friends and play with your friends. You have to make your own fun a lot, which leads a lot to player parties and events.
It's too bad Warner Bros. hired such a green dev team to develop such a great IP.
