In good company on
Jan 31, 2007 02:21:38 has a slick new podcast listing and it is bringing a ton of new people into the podcasting audience. If you haven't dugg VirginWorlds yet, please do so. As you can see here, VirginWorlds is in excellent company. Let's make MOG and VW the top two in the list. As of this posting, they're number 11 and 12, nearly top 10!

Digg VirginWorlds

I see the numbers going up and down on and wondered why (6 hours after this screen shot MOG is at 223 and I'm 234). I went looking for details and here's what I found.
"Active Digging Technology

Like all democracies, Digg works best with ongoing participation. So we've added something called Active Digging Technology for the podcasting section.

If you Digg a podcast once but don't Digg again within two weeks, your Digg gets subtracted from the count. (It does not get removed from your profile.) However, as soon as you participate anywhere on the site, your initial Digg is returned to the count."
So, I guess we keep digging.
But I also think this 'technology' hurts digg in a big way because it says, "keep using digg every day, or else we won't count your vote on anything." Not cool.

I've "digged" both shows.

But like I suggested over at the MOG boards, you should include a link to digg in each one of your podcasts' show notes. Also, throw a digg link up in the menu of the site for a general site digg.

Wow, that is totally lame (re Active Digg Technology).

I am guessing that one of Digg's goals is to get people to use Digg. Since podcasts don't flow in at the rate that news stories do, they want this as the hook to bring you back.

On the bright side, this will stop some "Digg-flation," so if you are a new podcast you'll have some hope of rising in your category.

And the podcast section is still a work in progress, so it may change.

I gave up on browsing digg's actual "news" around the new year just because of all the sensationalism and spam, so I guess I do understand why they are implementing it.

You can put a digg button on your site that shows the current 'digg value'. It uses an iframe - I can send you the code if you'd like.

Great show, btw...appreciate the hard work.

WoW Radio has several podcasts moving up in the ranks and three have bumped Virginworlds down to last on page one. Digg! Digg! Digg!

'WTF WoW Radio?' by Wilhelm2451

Why is WoW Radio listing different episodes of their podcast in a list that is supposed to be an overall list of shows, not episodes?

I see, WoW Radio actually has multiple shows. I guess I have to keep telling myself, "8 million users, there must be some depth to the game."

And I found it a bit lacking in class there to have Robg come brag on this site how he has passed VirginWorlds.

Here's the sad thing, they have about 9 things listed on the first and second page and the sad part is, Wilhelm is mistaken...those ARE separate shows. Is sick, I know, but they crank out content like mad. Hard to really complain about, except for the fact that I don't care for their stuff much. But all those WoW players can't be wrong. My main question is: why isn't World of Warcast, WoWcast, Taverncast and WoWChron up there instead? I'd rather that was the case. Kiss page one goodbye I guess... oh wait, it's not over until its over. Digg Digg Digg!

I have nothing to do with WoW Radio. I don't listen to WoW Radio. I've been a long time listener and fan of VirginWorlds. I was simply trying to bring attention to VirginWorlds listeners that we need to keep Digging the VW podcast to keep it on the first page. I apologize to everyone for the confusion.

I knew all along that Rob wasn't plugging WoWRadio (and really I wouldn't care if he had) but then I missed Wilhelm's assumption that he plugged WoWRadio and it looked like I agreed... I must have been totally out of it when I read this because I thought he was saying WoWRadio shows lack in class... not sure how I missed that.... anyway... its to bed. Rob we don't hate you, you're the man, I know this because of all the great email you send. Simple case of everyone reading too fast and responding too quick. Sorry about that. Now, everyone stare at Wilhelm until he apologizes.

*shuffles feet*

*stares at the ground*

Sorry... I read the note as a "Go WoW Radio plug."

Joys of the written medium, it is so easy to take things the wrong way.

I actually stirred up Ashlanne on the SOE Station forums about and now I see that messages are appearing on the various SOE community forums.

I felt sorry for the SOE podcast with its 6 Diggs.

Maybe it will help challenge the WoW Radio juggernaut.
